Perhaps they were aware of the following stats?
Jesus. PL Penalties 3. Scored 1 missed 2 (the last 2)
D Silva. PL Penalties 1. Missed
Fernandinho. No PL Penalties. Career penalties 17. Scored 11 missed 6
B Silva. Never taken a penalty
Sane. Never taken a penalty.
All the defenders, never taken a penalty.

What is guaranteed is that, if one of the above had taken the penalty and missed it, BM posters would be demanding to know why Marhez didn’t take it!
Ok re-sign Mario in January. ;-)

A real shame KDB wasn't fit, he'd have laced it into the top corner

Yaya and Balotelli were awesome because they were like ice when the time came to take a penalty. If I was a manager today I'd get the medical team to monitor which of our squad cope best with stress. Surely that's measurable these days. (Plus it would be awesome to BOO!!!! test)

If we did that I bet Bernardo, Sane and LaPorte would come out tops.

Ederson, he must be nerveless the way he plays the ball around in his own 6 yard box.

Id have given it to Bernardo, im pretty sure his technique would have been hard and low into the corner, but its gone now so hey ho, we move on.

He’s only taken one for city and it’s the only one he’s ever taken at club level. It was 2 years ago against Everton and, you’ve guessed it, he missed it. Sergio also missed one in the same game, just for good measure!
Edit. Just seen the post from @Cobra confirming this.

The details imho matter when it comes to missing pens. I don't want to be too critical of Mahrez but in this case his shot was wide, i have far less issue with a pen that is on goal and stopped by the keeper even if te attempt was rather weak. I just wondered if those pens missed by Aguerro and KDB were wide too.

edit:

Ok this was KDB against Everton. It's hardly the kind of miss that you can fault him, really just good work by the keeper. Atleast that attempt would have been far more acceptable than Mahrez his wide shot.

I've had to knock off a point on Pep's performance for not having read the dossier on Riyad's penalty woes. My ERO tells me that the last one he missed was for Leicester - at The Etihad. Can't recall it. Was it a save or another ballooned into the South Stand? Or was it left floating in the Ashton Canal?

Didn’t he double hit it? And had to retake it? Then missed, can’t recall how.

Anyhow, not all that surprised Pep didn’t know but completely shocked not one person from his entire staff knew this. Many tasks are delegated and don’t think Pep has the time to be analyzing all penalty history of the players but someone surely does. A massive fuck up really.

True but only for end of game penalties. I couldn't imagine him racing back to his line if their keeper saved it.

I could.
One of the best ever pen scorers in Bundesliga history is Hans-Jorg Butt (Leverkusen and Hamburg).
He scored 26 from 31, that's >83%, far above Bundesliga average of 75%.

He scored 17 in a row from 1999-2001.
Never directly conceded after he missed one of those 5,
you just have to setup your team in the correct way.

If the goalie is your best pen scorer, he should take 'em. No problem.
I'd like to see Ederson.
And: he will be on the pitch most of the time.

Coming back to Pep, he should have known penalty statistics in matches, not in training.
The difference is obvious.

I'd always prefer pens hard in a bottom corner.
The best pen scorers are waiting for the keeper to move.
You must be cool to do that.

Exactly

It's Pep's fault for tekkin' Sergio off before we get to the point where Atkinson is browned off at denying us one pen after another until the 85th min. Let it be a lesson! Or perhaps The TIme Lord knew that if Sergio was on the pitch it was a goal so the canute waits until he's subbed and the 'best' pen taker left of those who've ever taken one is the lad Mahrez!

We need to sharpen up on Plan A, not an alternative plan. Also, still waiting to hear why you haven't posted more frequently, given how successful we've become since you signed up on here.

I suppose you think yesterday’s performance wasn’t one with my re defensive considerations and protection than the defeats against Liverpool last year. Haha
