Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

What you and i earn is irrelevant. They don't live in the normal world, the only relevance to them is what the guy across the changing room is earning.

Unfortunately 175k does not represent what he and his agent believe he is worth, hence the current negotiations.
He’s saying he’s on £175k now and wants £275k, which is plainly bollocks

Christ sake Raheem if you cant manage on the money you get £175,000 PER WEEK, i give up, it would take me 5 YEARS to earn that, and you want £100,000 PAY RISE for fuck sake where ars we going.
It’s not about what he can manage on, its about how much the market values his rare talent at.

He’ll look across the road and see Sanchez earning 400k maybe 500k a week and quite rightly think he should be getting much nearer to that than he is now.

We should pay the kid what he’s worth

The club will look at what he fetches to the team and what it would cost to replace that if he leaves. To replace him unless you pick up a raw young bargain who turns into a gem, you are talking a minimum of sixty million. So if he got another hundred thousand a week on a five year contract it is another twenty five million. If he runs his contract down we will get no fee for him.

I understand the club have to keep to a structure but he is twenty three and appears to be improving every year and is already pivotal to how we play. Hopefully it is sorted soon.

There is a lot of poverty in and around Manchester and it saddens me to see how the genuine homeless struggle to eek out a pitiful existance.

It also saddens me that footballers too often bite the generous hand that feeds them, and MCFC pay our top players fare more than any of them need but it is becoming increasingly common for greedy players fuelled by parasitic agents to demand more.
Enjoyed the parts of your post I’ve not quoted but it’s literally nothing to do with Raheem how many homeless there are in Manchester nor is being paid an amount “he needs” relevant.

He will end up being paid what the market deems he is worth, either at City or somewhere else (with a free or reduced transfer taken into account due to a short contract).

I know that mate, I think you just like nitpicking. (sometimes; )

Some people are blind to this fact. Footballers at top class level live in different worlds to us. They compare wages to other footballers, not the sparky that has just fitted some lights in his new mansion.

There are quite a few blues that don't, not just on here. A mate is always picking the negatives in Sterling's game. He's been telling me we should sell him for two seasons now. We have a difference of opinion, even though i can still see the flaws in his game. But those flaws are getting ironed out nicely now, and my mate still argues we should sell him.

Just a difference of opinion really I suppose
Yep I know a few blues who don't rate Sterling. Personally, I think he is an excellent player who deserves his place in the side. I want him to stay and although not irreplaceable I would be sad to see him go.

If £275k pw is what he’s asking, I’d be sorely tempted to pay it (or around the £250k pw mark). He’s without question the most improved player in the squad over the past 12 months, and, bar Bernie, our best this season. Plus he’s English, and who knows what might lie in store quota wise, once the lunacy of Brexit becomes binding. Tie him down to a 5 year deal, and in 3 years time that sum might seem like good value

He’s a top player and integral to our team/squad. That said, if City are standing firm then I am fully behind them. If that means Sterling leaving and we have to pay big money for a replacement then so be it.

Love sterling...not about money now...its about spain!
Hope he stays...if he doesnt will wave him goodbye and clap him on his return....brilliant player
He is one player I won't begrudge a move, given how toxic the media is here.
However, I think he underestimates the importance of Pep and his system in improving his performances.
For the sake of more money and "Spain" he may be losing to chance to become a football great, at least at club level.

I'm not sure why sterling would want "a new challenge" I mean he has won the title but champions league could be an epic achievement here. I am really starting to admire Kompany, Silva, KDB and Aguero's loyalty. I even can't believe Aguero just chucked another year on.. what a city legend

I know. All those players could have not extended there contract and then got a couple of years elsewhere with a decent signing on fee. Speaks volumes about them and I am struggling to remember any disagreements when signing new contracts either.

Good work by the club in scrutinising the characters of potential signings in such depths. In short, we operate a “no cnuts” policy and it’s paying dividends. I can’t remember the last time we bought an out and out dud or a boat rocking wanker.......although before anyone starts, I haven’t checked!
