Crap towns

With the exception of Whitstable surely, spent a week there a few years back and loved it.

I agree with you about Margate though, we planned an afternoon out there, drove through it and couldn’t even be bothered to get out of the car.
whitstable, rochester, broadstairs were nice but you did well to swerve margate. you can see why it is a hotbead for UKIP . the flats by the station look like something out of russia.

Gillingham has rough as fuck parts, especially Chatham. A company i used to work for paid £60 a night out allowance this was around 15 years ago. A decent to good standard small hotel/B&B could be had in most places from 20-30 quid per night per single room.

The guy I worked with was such a tight ****, he'd turn the gas off when turning the toast over on the grill. We'll not quite, but still tight as fuck.

He knew all the best dives to stay in having stitched me up a few times in hovels that even the rats needed overalls on.

I remember us pulling up at this "lovely and cosy" B&B he had stayed in, assuring me it was spot on for the money. Well it may have been once upon a time but....... I knocked on the door to be greeted by a seedy looking landlord. He invited me to show me our twin bed room. On looking at the threadbare carpet stained with builders boots mud/cement stains and the like I just said, "sorry I've changed my mind pal" and walked off shaking my head.

We then found the 'delights' of the King Charles hotel opposite the army barracks. Another shit hole(well before it was renevated) to say the least!

Cheap digs so the miserly ginger **** could spend more on ale and fritter his out allowance on fruit machines and £1.99 chicken n' chips supper.

From then on I booked the digs through proper research or recommendation of guys in my trade. And I insisted on having a single as the pissed up ginger wrong un would often come in shitfaced falling on me in bed. And then he snored in a high pitch wheezing and gibberish talking in his sleep. Ah, Chatham and Gillingham, those were the days! :/
Not the the best of places, although the hotel in Rochester I last stayed in 2 years back was a vast improvement on many of the middens of the area TBH .

Rhyl used to be a great place 60s 70s bit into the 80s but like so many seaside towns with the advent of cheap holidays and caravan parks, now empty high street and shabby, all the guest house and flatlet houses were converted to HMO etc which bought a lot of anti social behaviour drugs crime etc but now loads of investment county council and euro money have spent 0.25 billion quid along the sea front 2 new hotels, large restaurant, re vamp of the pavillion theatre and a new style suncentre. The west end of Rhyl were the fairground was is now a small retail park and the a lot of the streets were we had a lot of slum houses and landlords have been compulsory purchased by the council and demolished and social housing built in place and works to the high street are in the pipeline. The best thing for me is the beach and prom I live 10 mins walk from both love walking dogs on the beach plenty of bins for dog shite too !

Not far away from Peterlee is the shithole of Grangetown which is part of the wider shithole, Middlesbrough. I used to visit there regularly, the kids played a version of “chicken”. They would wait for a bus coming round the corner of a street at slow speeds then run in front of it until the bus started to gather speed then get out of its way, it’s a god forsaken place, utter shithole.

so you missed out on the delights of Haverton Hill? Lucky you.

I've been to New Delhi before and let me tell you, some areas in there were disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. Proper, vomit-inducing disgusting.

Still nicer than Wrexham. What a dump. And that was after they did it up too.

I forgot Portsmouth. Somehow managing to be both historic naval town and 60/70's concrete jungle in two easy swoops. If anyone remembers the away days we used to have there in the 80's then they will have fond memories of the welcoming locals, the rundown nature of the place and the stupid fucking accent.

tbf I'd assume the concrete jungle element isn't their fault more an attempt to fill gaps created by the Luftwaffe?

Live in Rhyl myself, some good stuff happening.
If people think Rhyl is a shithole they should visit some of the towns and villages along the coast road.
Try a nice visit to Flint or Deaside.
