Guardiola hints to his future extending at City

"I have a contract here and I don't deny [rule out] if things are going well that I could extend my contract here."

(context: Asked about managing a national team in the future)




I think he will because the whole setup screams to me "dynasty" and has done since before he joined. The moment we got Txiki and Ferran i think a few of us had this idea but we dare not say it. If he ties down the players who all seem very happy and hungry plus gets to sprinkle any continuity purchases on the team i can see him here a long while.

He is not stupid, after us it really leaves him looking at national manager positions. I am sure he does like his golf but not enough to kill the fire he has for management and coaching, at least for a fair few years. I hope to see Pep here still in 2025 showing the same desire he has now.

Thought this for a while TC he suits the club the club suits his desire to build a legacy if we can keep him away from all the political BS who knows how long he may stay
 
He won't manage spain as a catalonian(sp) i wouldn't take it as red he will extend again,i find him very hard to read,he seems to hedge his bets a lot,can you imagine how pissed off the rest of the prem and the media would be if he stays longer lol

Left my screen unlocked on my computer when I went to make a brew with the text of the article at full size just to piss the Rags in the office off. Shouldn’t really act like that in my position but couldn’t resist it.

He's already said he would manage Spain.

He is a Catalan, but remember he also played 47 times for Spain.

He also said this last year to the BBC -

Asked whether he would like to take charge of a national team, Guardiola told BBC's Football Focus: "Yes, Spain I think.

"I would like to be a manager in a World Cup, and the European Cup (European Championships), I would like to feel that."

Spain is an incredible country, it's multilingual, multicultural, it's so rich. I don't know if the people want to be independent. We don't appreciate how rich [culturally] we are.

It is always possible he really has found his perfect job at City. Wouldn't that be special as a club?

He said that before they declared independence and it all kicked off,he has nailed his colours to the mast with his yellow ribbon supporting those in jail,i would be surprised to see him manage spain

I think he has @Henkeman. I think that because he wanted it at Barca but their internal politics put the mockers on that in 2012. If they had our setup he would still be there now as likely as not. For us, their internal bickering played into our hands perfectly. For a man who likes to have his ethos seep into every facet of the club we are perfect. With that i mean even at Bayern he could not maneuver in the way he wanted so he likely did not pay much attention to their youth department seeing quickly they were insular and resistant to outside interference even if it is Pep. We have given him Barcelona without the internal politics frustrating any efforts.

I think the bigger issue is not whether Pep would manage Spain, but more due to his political ties to the Catalonia cause, would Spain ever offer him the job ? I don't think it would go down to well in Madrid if they did offer him the job.

Me too. Especially with the peaceful activists being locked up for so long. Managing Spain would pretty much go against the yellow ribbon and everything he’s been standing for the past year.

On staying, even if we win the CL it doesn’t mean he’ll leave. I think as long as Pep sees there is room for improvement and the players are satisfied and listen to him he will stay.

Personally could see another extension, given most of the players are so far away from their prime. At the end of Pep’s current contract Jesus will be 24, Sane 25, Sterling and Bernardo 26, Foden 21, Stones, Ederson and Laporte all 27.

All these players will be YET to reach their prime. So imo there will still be a lot of room for improvement which is scary.

The conditions at the club are like no other and managers in this day and age don’t often stay longer than 3-4 years at one club but I think there will be an exception with Pep.

He has a chance to create a dynasty that football has never seen, why walk away?

Nah, it will simmer down eventually. He spoke about 10-14 years in the future, everyone involved in last October's fiasco will be gone and tensions will have resolved by then.
 
Think it’s great news but not a given by any means. Lots will be down to his relationships with the players and wether he feels he is still motivating and teaching them. He is so intense that some players will weary of it after a prolonged period. Saw that a bit at Bayern. Let’s hope it keeps as fresh as it is just now for the next five years at least
 
We're the only club he could create something unique at, the Barca and Bayern teams were special but they're just special teams amongst many others, here he could become the man you immediately mention when you here the name Manchester City even before any players. Txiki and Soriano need to be drilling that into him and I'm sure they are. If he chooses not to stay beyond 5 years though, I suspect we will still remain his longest managerial job.

As a rule of thumb the the "it is easier to replace the manager than the whole team" school of thought seems to rule. I honestly think with our setup now we do not apply to this methodology. Txiki i think would get working on replacing most of the first squad before entertaining any plans of Pep leaving. As long as Pep gets what he needs be it sales or recruiting and has the desire then he will stay i think. Building a fresh squad is almost something Pep yearns to do imo, he never really had the chance to build again at Barca after his initial efforts when he started with their first team.
