United were treated very differently back then, like royalty, there was the Premier League and there was Utd. It was peculiar because, as you know, the rags were hated by fans of all the other clubs. This was left unspoken of course and when, on the odd occasion this hatred came to the surface, in a phone in or whatever, it was instantly dismissed as jealousy.

Utd's pre-eminence was taken as a given, almost as if it were the natural order of things and if fans of other clubs didn't rally behind Utd on those glorious European nights it was spoken about as if it were akin to treachery. We were all supposed to put our petty allegiances aside and rally round the flag bearer of English football!

Utd were not like other clubs, their successes were our successes, even if we were too small minded to realise it.
At that time it was open season on any rag wearing an England shirt at Wembley, hence the 'Argentina' chants at the swamp. Can you imagine the outcry if we did the same after the way our players have been treated. Most of them think booing the UEFA jingle is comparable to farting at a funeral.

Pretty good summary that - they were yearly processions towards the inevitable outcome of a Manchester United victory playing champagne, swashbuckling football that we were all delighted to witness............

(Apologies, was a little bit sick in my mouth as I got towards the crescendo of that particular post)..........

There were quite a few City fans in the early days of the takeover, who thought that our rise might be welcomed by supporters of other clubs, that the break up of the sacred top four would shake things up, and if you look at the reaction of the Sunderland fans on the day of our 2012 victory they were right.

Not so now, a new narrative has emerged. Our rise is cast in unrelentingly negative terms, even where our football is admired it is almost always with a caveat.

Bloody hell, we can’t even have the press asking can anyone stop us without it being turned into a negative!

I used to dream of a headline like that, more than happy to settle for similar remarks as we ran away with the championship under keegan. Never did I think we would be spoke of in such terms in the PL, under players like these being lead by a manager like this. Yet here it is. Can anyone stop City??

Love it.

There's something about your posts that doesn't ring true.

You lot don’t know you’re born, take a trip up here to experience the Rangers love in and you would think yourselves blessed.

It’s a phenomenon that by simply pulling on their top you can commit six booksbls offences before being talked to. The red and linesman also wear your top under their black and your manager can criticise refs and the SFA and get away with it.

The fact you died is ignored and screwing the tax, cheating with EBT’s and leaving £145m, including £45 for a face painter, of unpaid bills is seen as ok.

Every commentator apart from Sutton wants you beat and every time you score a good goal, they focus on how the defence should have stopped it. When they score, it’s cocks out for a group wank.

I know you get shit, but it’s not in the same universe.

I would suggest you follow my rule of coping. You know it’s so bad because they are hurting like fuck that we are winning. The worse it gets shows me the depth of pain. I enjoy their pain.

So why have Rangers had so many players sent off this season?

They aren't about us, always the opposition. I couldn't care less about some scribblers musings about Liverpool being the neutrals second team and how we are responsible for the PL being boring.

Especially like your coping mechanism - works for me too.

The more the media push the anti-City agenda, the more pleasure I derive from their pain.

Oh it’s about us alright. ‘They’re on another planet’. ‘They’re a phenomenon’. ‘This is the best football the league has seen’.
They’re just a tiny fragment of conversation I read or hear from the press every week after another enthralling victory. Yet hear this morning are posters saying the ‘who can stop City’ tag, the eve of playing Chelsea, is a negative!! I mean fuck me!! That’s the biggest praise ANY of us could ever have imagined.

We haven't had anything like the domination Celtic have had over the years.

So you actually believe they like the fact we play the football we do and seeing us crash and Pep leave would leave them in utter despair?

It’s the only way. I still shout and bawl, but when I sit and consider the reason for it, it gives me a warm glow.

Was travelling back from a business trip on Wednesday. Had talkshite on because goldstein was missing. Some northern sounding bloke standing in. They were discussing top 6 and he said words to the effect of "You can't count City because that's just a freak situation".
Wonder if that would have been said had any other top 6 club been there?

They seem to love it, not just like it. But then I see things for what they are rather than sifting for negatives. There isn’t one negative in ‘who can stop City’. It’s a compliment. A huge one.
And who cares what they think when Pep leaves?
