Everton (H) Post Match Thread

*Disclaimer* I'm of the belief all of our players are quality and any criticisms made are through a lens adjusted for our superb standards, an overall good performance and a great result against a team we have struggled against in recent history.

Ederson - distributed well, looks even calmer on the ball than last year and made a few very good saves too.
Walker - excellent work rate, for me at times was trying to hard for the through ball or cross, when he would've been better to pass to a more technical player. I think he is trying to prove point that he can do it too, but sometimes knowing where your own weakness are relative to the team is the best strength.
Laporte - generally ok, his attitude is first class to have two head collisions and the way he continually put himself on the line straight after the first collision was amazing.
Otamendi - looked slightly rusty at the start but his touch and passing improved as the game went on
Delph - a few times he looked like a midfielder in defense, for me he is not quite hitting the heights of last year, seems to me he is mistaking a few more mistakes?
Fernandinho - looked tired and a few sloppy balls in the first half, played well in the second half and eased us to seeing out the game
Gundogan - I thought played very well on the whole, went missing a bit in the middle but he kept picking the ball up between the lines and looking for a forward pass
Bernardo - looked exhausted, he's not the quickest but looked a little off the pace he has played significantly more minutes this year at this point that last so maybe give him some rest with KDB coming back
Mahrez - quiet game, think him a walker failed to link up well on the right
Sane - quiet game in parts but pops up with quality moments consistently and got himself the 2 assists
Jesus - his best game in a city shirt that I can remember, he looked sharp and was dropping deep and link up play was excellent, and got the goals to get him the credit for that too. I think his strength is also underrated his hold play today was good.

KDB - just a cameo his directness is amazing and thought his aura lifted the whole teams quality
Sterling - did was raheem does
 
Walker looks to me increasingly out of his depth in our team. I think he's a very limited footballer, whose defensive abilities are average and going forward, he rarely offers anything. From time to time, he'll burst forward in order to give the ball away higher up the pitch. Other that than he just passes it backwards.

He's a backup for a better right back we don't yet have imo. And he doesn't even seem that quick any more either.
 
good stuff Blues, good result with 5 or 6 first choicers out, that has to be commended.

But that is why we buy strength, we have to go deep nowadays. We are looking a less certain at the back this last 3 or 4 games, that cant be denied, but still happy with all of our personnel at the back. I'm such a big fan of Delph but recently he's taking his eye of the game and become sloppy, it's actually happening on both sides of full back. Nobody comes through our middle anymore, so there's increased pressure there i guess. Everyone will need to dig deep, busy period approaches!

That is a complete overreaction to a player out of form. He was one the best if not the best right back in the league last year... but now he’s out of his depth ???? Really.

He’s a fantastic player. Players go out of form from time to time
 
Thought we were poor, think they had more clear cut chances than we did, they just missed them.

Don’t know what’s going on at the moment. Our worst form for a few years. The good thing is, we aren’t playing well but we’re not dropping too many points with our three best players to come back from injury
 
The attendance was woeful today, swathes of empty seats in the Family stand alone, which I expect was down to season ticket holders swerving the game due to weather/Xmas shopping/being on TV. But it don't look great!

I thought we missed dave,bernie looked a bit lost without him and we just don't flow the same way,he needed to put his feet up so the injury has made him,now kev is back we'll have the link in the middle again
I think for the weather and the early kick off after the cl it was always going to be a slog,i was excited for the game,love this time of yr for the footy
 
I thought we took it too easy today,we could of gone up a few gears and absolutely battered them,but we let them have a few chances of there own and could of got punished,decent display in the end.
 
both teams made a number of unforced errors, from misplaced passes, slow to control the ball and a few mis-timed tackles, which imho reflected the conditions, mainly the strong and unpredictable wind. Everton are a big powerful team, playing to a plan, but our pressing had them in trouble It was in the last minute they had their first corner, so, yes they missed a couple of chances, but were never dominating, After all the champagne football we have been privileged to watch, a bottle of newcie brown now and then does no harm.
Picking out individuals and criticising them is the blood of the match-day forum, in fact, if the word "shit" was banned, some posters would be missing from the thread altogether. No-one wants that, just so predictable

Someone near us said he’s been carrying an injury for a few weeks so maybe it’s just that, I suppose with Danilo injured he’s having to play anyway. You could see him taking sachets of something before each half kicked off.

Wow. That’s just so harsh it’s ridiculous.

He’s not in the best of form but has barely had a rest due to WC and Danilo being injured, Kyle was awesome last season and just suffering from too much football.
