Our fullbacks situation has room for improvement in general our first choice will be good when in form and up to speed thought imo, Walker has been making more mistakes this season.

Mendy still hasn't been allowed to settle into the system to point where it's second nature to him because of injuries. Long term, I think we might buy a proper LB to push Mendy for a starting place.

Danilo when he's fit can do that for Walker and give him a much needed rest. In fact towards the end of last season, Danillo for me was starting to look like a very smart buy when he got a run of form going.

Before his latest injury (don't even know how that happened), Danilo was fit for about a month yet hardly appeared. Think he's actually played more for Brazil this season than us.

Yep I was wondering about the reasons for that but we don't normally get to know them, it could be a question of how fit was he? In other words, if he came back in good shape in Pep's opinion or if he was showing the hunger in training and so on.

Come to think of it, it could have been Pep's reward to Walker for deciding to come back early for training, despite going late in the WC. Perhaps a reason he did that, is even Walker thought Danilo was doing well towards the end of last season and was worried about his place being under threat? Then again, would Pep favour a player like that, even if he did sacrifice a bit of his holiday?

Really don't know. The position of fullback (right and left) at the club has been an unfathomable mystery for countless years now. We're much cited as having invested heavily on them, and did so long before the summer of 2017. I thought we were heading in the direction of having two thoroughbreds on the pitch and two champing at the bit on the bench for every game. We now have one workhorse.

Was fucking dire again. Poor passing, taking the wrong option, running and giving the ball away, poor positioning defensively.

Someone give the lad a rest!

Dire is OTT.While he is definitely out of sorts somewhat,he also made some decent interceptions, especially where the incredibly fast, and dangerous,Gray was concerned.

I appreciate that someone else has made this point. I'm not going to delude myself into saying he's been anywhere near his best, but I do believe fans can take his excellent defensive capabilities for granted, probably owing to the obvious fact that he's not a technical whizz in possession like most of our other players. But even when he's not near his best he's still our best defensive fullback comfortably.

I also think the fact that we as fans tend to miss that stuff is a measure of how intelligent and assured he is as a defender; for a seemingly old-school English fullback he does occasionally display Italian levels of positional awareness. And on the continent they say the best defenders are the ones you don't see do anything, due to the previously stated reasons.

Desperately needs some rest and recharge those duracell batteries. We need the Kyle Walker of last season ASAP.

Last night he had a first touch like Fred West and his final pass again was not to standard. He also kept over running the ball which I found annoying. The player we watched last season( and he wasn't by any means perfect last year btw, but consinstant and solid) and the player we have this season are very different. I don't know know if it's a blip or maybe something more serious, but what I do know is he needs to sort it ASAP.

Kyle Walker hasn’t really played that well at all this season but in the last two months I think his concentration has gone. He takes his eye off the ball or off the opposing man or off the player he’s passing to at the wrong times and he either miscontrolls it, gives it away or is dispossessed.

We saw the signs that he has it in his locker at Wigan last season and against us a few times for Spurs but at the moment that sort of thing is happening every game.

I’ve never thought he was a good footballer, just a really good athlete. But last season his concentration was much better and his pace got him out of a lot.

He needs to get his head on it though. Maybe even needs a rest. Don’t know why he played last night. No need to play him at all.

The problem is that Danilo is shit. He needs proper competition.
I think he had one or two bad games for us and one was his debut at left back. Other than that he’s been a good squad player. No dramas and scores the odd goal too.

What makes you think Danilo is shit? He’s never let City down when
he’s played. He’s better at going forward than Walker too.

Tries his hardest but he's an average at best defender who, although has better passing and crossing ability than Walker, has a habit of taking a shot on either foot whenever he's within 35 yards of goal regardless of the options ahead of him. He also lacks the sheer athleticism which helps Walker make up for positional errors. Walker has lapses of concentration, Danilo is a headless chicken.

Fullbacks are the most high risk positions in our team and Danilo isn't good enough to play there at the level we want. Walker, although in poor form, has far more upsides to his game.

What aimless criticism. You think Danilo is shit because he attempts a few long range shots? He isnt as fast as Walker, but he definitley isn’t no slouch like you’ve described. What a load of shit

The problem is that he’s always injured, which makes him a pretty poor squad player to be honest
