.Your point about tax being necessary to pay for public services is not at issue here - of course a level of tax is necessary but there is an optimum level that maximises revenues for the exchequer. Labours current policy of hiking taxes will be counter productive in reducing GDP and so resulting in lower levels of tax revenues for the exchequer
It is this point that never gets addressed, there are always accusations of being a heartless bastard, yet when it's
pointed out that increasing tax over and above the median accepted as the tipping point,results in lower tax takes,
then it means even less for the projects apparently in desperate need.
Then there's the airy fairy 'We can do it if there's a common will,' etc; Well yes, we can increase taxes, but we'll
receive less tax by doing so.
Nobody will give out any figures, so it's idealistic dreaming, basically.
