Pep made a clear statement about playing kids post match Rotherham being asked about Foden:

(something like)
"We [the coaching staff] are here not so nice people. We don't put them on the pitch because he is a City fan or a nice guy,
but because we believe he can do it."

That certainly is his general view about any player, also youth.
They don't want to do anybody a favour, they are interested in success in the first place.

Could we please remember that statement in our future pre match line-up suggestions? ;-)

Watch Pep at 7:28...

Well if they don’t believe that a single one of the kids in the EDS could have come on today for 20 minutes then something has gone drastically wrong somewhere. All that money spent on the Academy, buying kids from all over the globe and Pep and the coaches don’t believe any of them are good enough to play for the first team.

Maybe they have some more important points on their radar
which you are leaving out of your consideration, mate. :)

Of course it's as black and white as that

Accadamy pays for its self tenfold. That statement about playing them when Pep and his team think they are good enough is good and keeps the standard very high plus when Pep does pick you the lift that will give the player because he knows Pep thinks he is good enough.

I have no problem with that standard. It should apply to all players and as Walker has found out recently, it clearly does!

It pretty much is. Pep decided he’d rather have two centre backs on the bench, and two players who ran themselves into the ground on Thursday night then he would a single youth player.

As is the right of the best manager in the world,he see's what we don't,we don't hear what txiki and khaldoon tell pep about what they want him to focus on,as i said...

Pretty sure Laporte was there in case Zinchenko had a shocker.

Honestly I think he was treating this like any other weekend fixture. Keeps to the routine the players are used to and doesn't risk unsettling things too much. Not saying that would have happened, it's just my theory.

Well as the best manager in the world I hope he’s at least slightly disappointed that 2 of the most talented kids in world football both left as they didn’t trust him to give them enough game time.

Lol,they have proved absolutely nothing yet to justify that title

there some great coaches on here,if your that fucking good get a job in football,we shouldn't play 1 kid in any first team match unless they prove they can do the job in training day in day out,not because some knowfuckall on a web site thinks he know better than world respected coaches. i get so fucking bored of the same old shite,if they deserve their chance they will get it, we arent a fucking welfare trust for up and coming footballers.the academy will produce excellent well rounded kids who will have a great careers because they have had some of the best education in world football,we will make money from that, and every now and again a kid will come through who will be a world beater,if we loose them because they see their future elsewhere then so be it,sell them with a clause and reap the rewards.

I remember Wenger being asked by shareholders some years ago about the lack of success of their academy. He told them it was successful and gave names of players who were either still with them or moved on to other clubs. He went on to say that if they produced one world class player in a ten year period then that would be the dream. The standard of our team is so high we will not have that many who become regular players. Some people overrate the chances of young players reaching our standard. I still think back to when we bought Balotelli and there were some on here who actually thought he was already one of the best players in the world!

It’s not his job to keep teenagers happy. It’s his job to make Manchester City the best team he possibly can and win silverware.
It makes me laugh how some fans think it’s a disgrace that we’re not playing enough youngsters and that somehow means the academy is a waste of time. It’s bollocks spouted by idealists who have no fucking clue.
There will be exceptions every now and again with us discovering somebody of such talent that it’s impossible to ignore, but as a general rule we will be continuing in very much the same vain as we have done for the last 10 years.

We have the most expensive academy in the world and we’ve filled it with some of the most talented young players from across the globe. We apparently have the best manager in the world. And yet in the past 6 seasons we’ve had a grand total of one youth player start a Premier League game for us. Apparently though the people who suggest that maybe we should be doing a bit better in that area are idealists who have no fucking clue.

It’s genuinely hilarious to see the hoops people jump through to justify our appalling record at bringing youth players into the first team.

They are sheep who pick up the constant Narative on social media and in the those shit comics. Now we are that good as a team the bias jealous agenda drive media have nowt else for them to have a go at us for so its we dont play give youngsters a chance empty seats and cheats.

Say it again and again please. Your are speaking too much sense. Don’t understand how so many posters can’t grasp this.

Look at the some of the players we let go in recent years. Many thought Enes Unal, Kelechi, Rekik, Maffeo etc etc should be in our squad. Hell I even though Maffeo was good enough. Where are these players now?? Struggling unfortunately...or average at best. They can still turn it around obviously.

The reality is some of our academy players will make it to a top club, even fewer to an elite club and maybe a handfull will become world class.
