We've never been able to defend under Pep, it's possession football, the loss of our main ball holders, Kev, Dave and Fern has proven this.

Pep's defense is mainly ball possession coupled with immediate press.

Did quite well tonight, right set up and subs.
Even as a Gundogan fan, I'm not sure that was the right sub. Perhaps Kev was simply not ready.

And it should have been Dave, Aguero, and Kompany.

Taking out Eric wasn't a good call either.

But overall, kudos

Laporte was injured.

PepsP amazing (obviously) but he also showre a pair tonight against them

He has finally learnt how to play against Klopp's Liverpool. Unlike the Anfield defeats last season, we've had an edge over them in both games this season. Kudos to Pep !

I thought the way we pressed Liverpool was brilliant. They had huge problems playing out through the midfield. Some great positional play there, and a lot of hard work. Basically everything creative had to come from their fullbacks, which made it much easier to defend against.

I had a feeling he would start VK,great decision that, but was a little surprised Kev didn't come on,but wasn't needed in the end, onwards and upwards

Pep is the very best manager in the world - yes, he's in charge of an extremely talented side wherever he goes - but he improves any side he manages.

From a match tactic/strategy perspective - Pep studies each opponent intensively prior to a match and adjusts his sides accordingly. To wit - our last-year's nemesis - Liverpool - a side that's playing even better this year than last - has not beaten us this year - in spite of their success last year. Moreover, we should have beaten them twice this year - a missed penalty away from taking all 6 points.

Said a few pages back he needed to start playing mind games.

He did it and it worked wonderfully. Now Fernandinho has joined in saying not winning a title in so long could effect them.

Loving it. Keep it going!!

Good decision to bring VK back for the last two games to add bite and leadership. It has helped to arrest a rocky patch and initiate a turn-round.

On the other side of the coin, can we please see a bit more of Foden in league games now and again? Not against the likes of the dippers, fair enough, but there are other opportunities.

Pep made a clear statement about playing kids post match Rotherham being asked about Foden:

(something like)
"We [the coaching staff] are here not so nice people. We don't put them on the pitch because he is a City fan or a nice guy,
but because we believe he can do it."

That certainly is his general view about any player, also youth.
They don't want to do anybody a favour, they are interested in success in the first place.

Could we please remember that statement in our future pre match line-up suggestions? ;-)

Watch Pep at 7:28...
