That family stand empty section post half time

Brought my son over from Ireland for the Chelsea game. Second time visiting the Etihad, last time was a narrow win over Swansea two years ago... this game, what a match to pick. The amount of people that came up to ask me about it back in Dublin. We were in the family stand, 136. It was packed around us and great atmosphere. My son learned loads of chants. I didn't know what you were talking about until I saw the highlights. Am guessing what happened there is that an underage club block booked and then couldn't make it. Could have been as simple as a bus breaking down. I was at the Funzone before the game, there was a bunch of clubs there including one from Dublin. Realistically City is the only top club where you can do bring an underage team to watch as the tickets go on sale to the public in August, so you can plan it. Maybe Spurs also, but you wouldn't notice a bunch of no shows in Wembley. Anyway, for me one of the reasons i like that he is is a city fan and not liverpool or man utd, is because I can get tickets for city. They are not easy to get, but at least it's possible to get them. And that's down to the club making kids tickets available. I have to say also, the atmosphere in the ground was outstanding when we have been there and very friendly people. And the quality of the football on Sunday, my god. Even before the match we were sitting behind Ederson watchin him practice kick outs, it was stunning.

More embarrassing than empty seats (incidentally if you get embarrassed by a seat not being sat in then you’ve probably got serious self esteem issues) is the number of adults on here squealing about “sanctions” and “policing” of whether a six year old goes to a game or not.

When a game isn’t a 3pm Saturday kick off there tends to be more seats not used, that’s all that happens. The family stand is no worse than South level 3 or CB3 for that either.

Quite why it creates such hysteria is beyond me

i an concerned about empty seats , it reflects badly on our football club and loyal support being undermined by all and sundry ,when our support has actually been the most loyal for over the 50 years i have been watching my football club , now perhaps you can tell me all about my self esteem issues

I just don’t understand why anyone would care about a seat not being used. It doesn’t reflect well, badly, embarrassingly or anything, it’s a bit of plastic stuck on concrete. If a fan of another club thinks anything of it then they’re desperate. Why join in the hysteria of looking at the number of people not in the stadium rather than those who aren’t.

I’ve been going since the late 70s, if the place was full more than a couple of times a year we were lucky. I never stood on the Kippax and looked at seats in the North Stand with a tear in my eye. What next? Counting unsold programmes?

It’s nothing to do with embarrassment and people
can choose what they do with their season cards. This is an issue that affects most of the ground to different degrees.

That said, the swathes of empty seats at the start and end of games is damaging to City’s reputation and weakens our commercial team when negotiating new sponsorships. We often score goals during these periods with the footage shown time and time again.

We’ve been accused of inflating sponsorshsip deals by tens of millions of pounds and if proven this will result in serious sanctions from UEFA. Hopefully, we are in the clear but people who are too lazy to use the Ticket Exchange will claim it’s snowflakes worried about banter from rags and Scousers. Yes your tickets will not always be resold because people want to attend the big games that are usually full at the Etihad.

In addition, there are loads of families on the Face Value ticket sites who say they can’t get tickets together at the Etihad. That’s a shame when there are seats unused and the ticket holders can’t be bothered reselling them on the Ticket Exchange.

one of our group, sits in the family stand, originally he had his lad with with him, but he decided he didnt want to go anymore,
that was 3 seasons ago, he hasnt paid for his lad in all this time but hasnt been moved from the family stand either. (because he likes it there, fair enough)
but the single seat thats next to him has been empty for 3 seasons, how do you fill that single seat in the family stand ??
when you need an adult and a kid next to each other ideally that it,
for me he should have moved elsewhere now his lad isnt going,
maybe he is an exception, how many more are in the same boat.

Its not a bit of plastic on concrete is it ? Its an empty seat that another supporter could use , and it does reflect badly unless you have been going around with your head up your arse , or perhaps you enjoy are ground being constantly referred to as the Emptihad ? Perhaps your not bothered , but as a proud City fan and someone who has the opinion that our supporters are the best in the land , i do not like our support having the piss taken out of them at every opportunity.
Looking at seats with a tear in your eye , unsold programmes it appears your making a good attempt at taking the piss out of support , and as for Maine Rd being full twice a season , you really are on a f*cking wind up.

I though the single seats were the ones offered in the value season tickets?

If you think Maine Road was full on more than a handful of occasions in the 80s then you weren’t there. Luton, Charlton, Chelsea, the 5-1, after that it’s a real struggle.

And no, it makes no difference to my life whatsoever if a fan of another club wants to shriek about a seat not being used. City fans are fans like any other club, I certainly don’t see myself as better than a S****horpe fan, just because our stadium might have fewer spares than theirs.

Its not just the family stand. There's seats near me where people leave around 30mins for a pint and don't come back till 60mins. What's the point in even coming to the game. Just go to the pub.

Sick to ******* death of that stand! Scored first goal yesterday and went ballistic jumping up and down whilst picking my little girl up.. looked around and I felt like the odd man out. Nobody within 20 feet radius looked remotely bothered with some light clapping, some couldn't even be arsed standing up. I swear now, if these are the new supporters we're attracting then I'd sooner be gone. Look at the goals in 2nd half then look at the lethargy in the crowd. Awful.

I'm surprised at your comment mate, I've been a season ticket holder for 10+ years in the family stand and everyone around me ALWAYS celebrate a goal. Singing certain songs doesn't happen due to innocent ears, but goal celebrations always happen.

If I could just have my say on this.

I'm a season ticket holder and have been for ten years, always sat in the family stand.

From where I sit looking across the pitch I've always notice empty seats and our home support being out sung, ironic as this is where a lot of complaints come from...just saying like.

The family stand is the new Richard Edgehill....some just cant help themselfs having a pop, yet have only been twice.

Everyone around the seat was made aware in case they had family or mates who wanted to take it up the following season. The season ticket was taken up although not used every game therefore an empty seat on occasions. It's a difficult task to resolve. However, hopefully most people will be watching the game next Sunday & not finding the need to get fixated on empty seats. :). Sorry no offence but just got a bit fed up reading this subject when we have such great football too watch.

So Nissan will pull out due to 10 year Joey Smithnot turning up for a game?....I doubt it mate.

Don't take this personally I'm not having a go at you or anybody else individually. It's just that the North stand has become embarrassing, especially this season on no shows and early leavers. Are they selling half-price Freddo bars and ice pops in the tuck shop at fullime of something?

I find the couldn't give a fuck apathatic types on here disrespectful. I have been accused of being a seat counter on this forum in the past by those blue tinted blinkered fans who refuse to see the ground has several hundred empty seats scattered about it for most matches.

What our owners , Pep Guardiola and backroom staff tgink when the full-time blows on seeing the stadium half empty, I don't know.

We definitely have the fan base to fill it week in week out, but it is very rarely full to absolute capacity. I have several City mates all over the world who would give their right arm to come over for a match and get involved with the singing.

These are special times happening at this football club and I'm old enough to have been there when we wasn't so fortunate. I think we owe it to Sheikh Mansour to get behind the club every game and fill the seats up,but it's up to the Club to do something about the the missing fans at games.

As for the atmosphere in games, it has improved recently, but it reminds me of the old orangina advert- "shake the bottle, wake the drink". We should be inspiring the team to perform in games, not the team inspiring us to sing!

Rant over.

There’s thousand of empties for most mid week games Pete. Those of us who have worked in marketing and sales realise that damaging the brand damages the sales potential.

With our level of success on the pitch, issues about possible padding of sponsorship deals by our owners shouldn’t arise.

They could do with selling balls in your stand, why would Pep give a shite with 700 empty hundred seats. Would those 700 seats in the family stand get those that choose not sing singing week in week out to sing? or those that decide to get off earlier, stay?

It only bothers those that can't take the banter at work from reds, stop worrying about it bud.

But what about those that don't sing or make an atmosphere or the other areas of the stand where it's empty?

Why always the family stand?

I know very little about marketing other than why would a international company bother about a few empty seats, wouldn't they be more interested with being associated with the greatest English football team in the history of the prem?

I'm at work on my meal break, so forgive the spellings and grammar.

International Companies don’t like negative publicity Pete. It affects profits.

I posted last week about how I was surprised there were empty spaces in the middle of the South Stand against Arsenal. I’ve posted many times about pisstakers who go in the Singing Section without singing.

Empty seats seen in the middle of the South Stand were just people in the legends lounge not being back in their seats at the time.

I was behind the goal in 116 and there were a few empties mate. Some just prefer going to the away games.
