School kids protest climate change

People will talk you down if you try to ignore the actual important issue by shooting the messenger, and with good cause.

Wealth is also irrelevant. Let me pose you with one challenge though: If the kids should consume less luxury for their own good, then why do we allow others to predate on their senses by bombarding them with commercialism to buy buy buy? You know what, lets start a significant drive to reduce waste by slashing trough the advertisement industry, reduce it to a tenth of its mass and then simply for purposes of information. It will aid the enviroment, less resources used and less people enticed. Then again ... its a lot of jobs .. a lot of revenue ... a lot of adults profit nicely on it.

I am a student of the Great philosopher Thorstein Veblen, I know intimatly such vital and highl relevant terms to this like "conspicious consumption", just aswell that as a product designer i know what the hughe inpact can be of such things like "planned obsolesence". If you don't understand conspicious consumption, then you really lack some vital information to judge. I would look it up if i were you, otherwise you might feel stupid if i need to explain it to you.

It's unfair to demand of these kids to be more holy than the pope, simple as that. They have the right to fight for their interrests when it's a zero sum game aswell, simple as that.

Ha, well neither of my kids are doing the things you mention but they are definitely concerned about the environment. Which is why it’s dangerous to make generalisations about a demographic you are seemingly out of touch with.

And who should vet these protesters to make sure they're 'walking the walk'?
Or should we just presume the worst of all of them?

Im not suggesting anyone should vet them. Im just saying they would have a tad more credibility if they did walk the walk.

So they don't have phones, use computer games, get lifts in cars, use plastic, watch TV, fly on foreign holidays, eat meat, etc etc. Good on them !! Wait till they grow up.

No, I never actually said that. Weird that you’re particularly offended by the under-13 demographic, but each to their own.

Which modern day accessories are they allowed to use for their protest to be valid to you?
 
I don't understand why these kids are getting grief for trying to make a positive change. Because some of them got there in a car they can't protest about climate change? Are they only allowed to protest if they march in recycled flip flops?

I don't think it counts unless gavvo sees the flip flops and is fully convinced that they're recycled.
