Yeah, it's hardly a new phenomenon. I'd argue that it was more prevalent when we were dogshit as well. Personally, it's never just been about the football for me because if it was we'd have all jacked it in years ago when we were tumbling towards oblivion. It's also a social thing for me, and let's be honest when it comes to European away trips in particular the football is only a small, albeit important, part of it. That's not to say everyone should get totally wasted but many fans will want to make something of the trip when they're out there - that could be bouncing around in the streets as many were in Dusseldorf the other night, or doing something a bit more cultured like taking in a bit of sightseeing and eating out in nice restaurants which is more to the liking of posh twats like yourself ;)

The irony was, they were actually City fans visiting for the first time. I wonder if they ever came back?

Absolutely, there's always been blokes who go to the match more for the craic than for the football.
During Stuart Pearce's stewardship it was only the prospect of a load of Guinness in the Osborne and Gardeners, then on to town (Rosie's anyone?) that kept me going.

Ive no problem with people using football as an escape - it’s been mine for years - but people can take that escapism way too far. Computer games were another escape for me, I could just sink into an alternate reality and forget everything for a while, where you can do whatever you want. But with football, it’s like some people think laws no longer apply once it’s match day. Lawlessness and thuggery are the order of the day. That is an issue with society in general that’s then spilling into football, rather than a new breed of fan.

Just seeing my team play and hopefully win. That's what it's always been about for me. I grew up less than 20 yards away from the main entrance at Maine Road. There was less sense of occasion around visiting a stadium I played in and around every day.

Now I have my own 11-year-old, we sit in crawling traffic for a 10-mile journey and there's nothing enjoyable about that, unless we want to enjoy the delights of the Metro!

so what? what harm are they doing?

The issue is paying to support your club and travelling to away games (here or in Europe) and being intimidated or threatened of your own fans who snarl ,squabble and throw beer at other city fans.

We are all City fans at the end of the day but there is definitely a group within a group at these games nowadays and its not pleasant - outside of the game we can stay away inside the ground its a bit more difficult.

Where did I say they were doing any harm?
I was responding to someone who said they only go to watch the match, everyone’s different.

Personally I think it’s a bit ridiculous to pay all that money, travel all that way and then watch it on the TV on the concourse.
But they’ve paid they’re money they can do as they please.

The conduct of our younger support is pathetic at the moment , not all but a large percentage. In Germany these last couple of days all they wanted to do was get pissed and goad others either fellow blues or Germans. The songs on the bus back to the train station after the game were all Munich this and Munich that , are they actually aware of who died that day ??
At the ground well at least in our section anyway all they were interested in was getting even more drunk and throwing beer over everyone. When challenged they then tried goading us into a fight all very brave picking on some who is disabled .At one point the idiot behind deliberately poured his beer over one of our party then kept on at him to F**k off if he didn’t like it. One of them even fell asleep during the game .
I can see this happening yet again in the pubs around Wembley again on Sunday and the reason we won’t venture down that way until near ko time. But we are lucky as these are the fans the club want to get on board as they bring atmosphere to the games and intend giving them a separate allocation .
But then maybe it isn’t them at all and it’s just our fault for being as we were called on Wednesday ‘f**king old c**nts’!!

Certainly heard more stuff to do with Munich back in the day, not recently.

Saying that the last away game i went to was the Fa Cup semi vs Arsenal.

Still pissed some twat set off blue flares outside the pub, throwing beer and ruined my coat.

It’s not an age thing I don’t think as some of the worst are those sad ****s in their 40’s who are still taking drugs and generally behaving like pricks.

Not sure about this throwing beer around though. What the fuck is that all about? I don’t have to be sober to not like it, I don’t like it when I’m pissed either. It’s fucking ridiculous.
