Leroy Sane - 2018/2019 performances

You can tell how good he is going to be in the first 10mins or so of every game and today was no different. Just one of those days.

Wingers thrive on confidence and Bernardo and Sterling are flying at the minute, Sane and Mahrez less so, Pep really should have rotated them more. Needs to start on Saturday.

Thought he was average in the first half, though wasn’t helped by us continually looking for Mahrez, but came out in the second half like a smacked arse.
Don’t know if he’d had a strip torn off him at half time but looked as disinterested as I’ve ever seen a footballer in those few minutes before he was hooked.

The offside and failure to control the ball even when offside was the final straw. He needs to stop sulking. Sterling and Bernardo will be playing a lot of games if him and Mahrez don’t get their act in order.

I am beginning to fear the same. Hopefully, he looks at the tea leaf and realize Bernardo will be moving to the Center next season and his only competition will be Mahrez, and even if he loses out to Mahrez, rotation btw the 3 will be necessary and he can get enough PT.

But right now the gulf in performance btw Sterling & Bernado to Sane & Mahrez is huge and he simply isn't at their level right now
Does his contract run until 2021 or 2020?

So no need to panic in terms of him potentially leaving on a free. Wouldn't surprise me if he leaves in the summer though. Personally I think the ceiling to his potential is so high that we would be much better trying to resolve any differences than letting him go and signing a replacement. But clearly he would need to sign a new contract in the next 10 months, ideally 6 months or we are going to have to get rid. I'd be gutted to see him go tbh.

Thought he started the game quite well last night, but then as soon as the right back tried smashing him when he went on a run he didn't fancy it after that, body language was embarrassing

I'm a bit sceptical about his potential and think he's already [almost] reached his ceiling. Sane is a very good wing dribbler who is unable to effectively play 'inside' as he lacks vision and ability to assess surroundings quickly. Xavi and Pep himself have openly mentioned this shortcomings.

Sane's pace and power are very impressive, so people tend to overlook his low footballing IQ. Sterling is currently so far ahead in this regard.

Edit: mind you, I thought the same about young CriRo, but he has somehow managed to become an incredible goalscorer.

Way I saw it: Mahrez was trying and failing pretty miserably. Pissed off at getting hooked less tha 10 mins into second half, probably at his own performance as well. Looks really low on confidence and frustrated.
Sane wasn't really trying IMO. Noticeable that Pep acknowledged and consoled Mahrez when he came off but avoided Leroy like the plague. He's not happy with Sane at all.

Maybe. He only turned 23 a few weeks ago. I think he can be genuinely world class but it is about whether he can be arsed working on some elements of his game and adding consistency. Mind you Raheem is only a year older but is a much more mature player.

He needs to improve his first touch and ball control imo.
He tries to touch the ball at highest speeds and with highest risks to gain a big advantage. Naturally, it sometimes fails but you shouldn't confound it with a bad touch. He has a great touch but as all things in football, they're ridiculous harder when performed at a high speed.

Should have played Sunday after turning the game last Wednesday.
Is lacking a little confidence and it’s not helping that when Sané plays we are regularly seeing an inverted winger on the other side. This limits his space and makes it easier to crowd him out.

He’s a little out of form, but no more so than De Bruyne and to a lesser extent Silva.

Love Sane, probably my favourite City player to watch when he's on it and I hope he kicks on again so he's back to first choice. Really is no comparison to a young Ronaldo though. Remember watching the twat at the Etihad for the first time and thinking he'd become the best player in the world. Leroy doesn't have the touch, strength or heading ability that Ronaldo had and is completely one footed. Not slagging Leroy because he can be amazing but I agree some blues get carried away when talking about him as a future world player of the year or scorer of 35 a season.

He is quite obviously a future candidate for the best player in the Prem or maybe the world.

I don't give a fuck if he has a few bad games personally.

Imo, our current strongest team has him, Sterling & Bernardo Silva all fully fit, playing in it.
Totally agree. Sterling is excellent on the left these days but still better on the right. Bernardo is better in the middle than out wide anyway IMO and Sane is just an out and out match winner who full backs can't handle when he's in the mood. I don't buy the line about Leroy not working back and helping his full back either. Sometimes might have the odd lapse in concentration in that area but it's not lack of effort. Regularly see him sprinting back 70 yards to save our arses when we are looking exposed on the counter. Looks like all isn't well between Pep and Leroy though, just really hope they can sort it out otherwise we lose a player with incredible ability and potential and signing a replacement wouldn't be straight forward anyway. Mahrez looked like he should be a good signing but is really floundering on the other side so any signing is a risk.

Agree 100%. It seems Sané's lack of form is likely down to him not getting a regular run. I could agree with this if everyone else was on fire. He not playing is effecting D Silva for me.
Bernardo, Sané & Sterling are those with the biggest effect on the game currently(Aguero aside). They should all be playing. There's almost zero reason to critisise Pep, but if any other manager were trying to shoehorn in De Bruyne & D Silva in their current form, questions would be asked.

There's no question that De Bruyne & Silva are match winners, but on current form, you'd have to say Sané is much more likely.
Our shape, freedom of the advanced 8's and counter attack is all much better with Sterling & Sané playing.
