Leroy Sane - 2018/2019 performances

The goal was not his fault at all. He was in a good position but got done by a good piece of work from their full back who you would never expect to cut inside the way he did and put in an inch perfect cross.

Sterling was much more at fault for not tracking Robertson.

Watching his goal again is a nice reminder...It was Ederson-Danilo-sterling-sane-goal, all passes and movements forward with some pace. Sometimes amidst all the control and stabilizing of matches we forget to be direct and lethal (esp given how few counterattacks we’re generally offered in a game.) And it’s also why sterling and sane, to me, are two people who should never be subbed off in a tight game when we need a winner or equalizer, no matter what’s happened in a match up til then. They are a constant threat and the principal two who can change a game in a blink because of pace.

Overall probably not his best performance (though, I still think it was good) but the difference between even last year and now is that he keeps going. He doesn’t sulk, he doesn’t complain, he just keeps driving. There were a couple of times where Laporte or Danilo hit bad passes to him, forcing him to chase for a lost cause, and he made the run and then turned back and gave them the thumbs up. He wasn’t doing that even last year.

He is maturing, and the way he took the game winner is a perfect example of it.

He has Best Player in the World in him.
He appeared at the byline and gave the Norwegian TV pundits (Brede Hangeland and Owen Hargreaves) a nice interview after the match yesterday. A very sympathetic and modest lad with some good reflections on the match. Described his partnership with Raheem as almost telepathic. Not at all the petulant diva some folks make him out to be.

He and Sterling are our most effective combination. It was neither of their best games on Thursday but bloody hell they both put in a shift for the team. Leroy took his goal so well. That was a very difficult chance - we missed at least three that were easier. Raheems assist showed how well they combine. I genuinely believe that we wouldnt be 4 points behind if we started with those two consistently.
