Theresa May

She is leading a minority government, propped up by the Dup, Split by the ERG and trying to navigate against her own views one of the most important political events post-war with the most marxist opposition seen for a long time, against a backdrop of serious immigration discord and a ever challenging economic outlook.

Not to make excuses for her, but....

From my point of view, Bercow’s played a blinder. Not sure many Leavers would agree, mind!

Yes, her judgement is appalling. Product of her ever so dull and petit-bourgeois upbringing. No street smart. Her instincts so poorly attuned for the jungle that is top level politics. They’ve had her for breakfast. She is too stubborn and stupid to realise this, however.

So do you think that Bercow will block this vote on the grounds that you can't just keep running the same vote over and over again?

He's a fucking dude but I cannot believe he will do it. And anyway, they will argue some utter bollocks that they have changed it in some way when they haven't which will make it almost impossible for him to do it. As we have seen many times recently, this government and particularly May has no respect for parliamentary democracy.

Lots of that created by ......TM. Threw away a good majority through chronic ill judgement and has created ill feeling around immigration since she was Home Secretary. Sold her soul to the DUP and has continued to pacify the ERG to her parties detriment.

Can we still suggest she is a remainer? She voted to keep no deal on the table. That is the most nuclear of all brexit options and she has talked it up as a legitamate choice. Then you have her red lines, they are all straight ERG policy. She might have claimed to have campaigned / voted for remain but in reality she did nothing but sit on her hands and wait for the result. I dont think she cares about anything other than immigration, we knwo she doesnt like immigration. Or more specifically a certain type of immigration.

From my perspective, she's behaved like a Leaver pretty much throughout. She's steadfastly and devoutly stuck to the mission of taking us out, no matter the damage and at any cost. Whilst at the same time not even entertaining the possibility that maybe just maybe there's no majority in favour of this any more and perhaps we might want to consider whether another referendum might be appropriate. She bangs on about the will of the (17m) people, never giving a thought to the 16m who opposed it and the 30m others who didn't vote at all. I'm convinced she's a closet leaver.

She is a leaver now no doubt.

The question is was she ever a remainer. She was never a strong presence on any debate and said practically nothing during the campaign. Pre Ref campaign anything she did say was just the government line that she was obliged to say at the time - she was of course Home Secretary in the Cameron government so she was not in a position to say anything probrexit.

I suppose the question is, what has she done since becoming PM to show that she is a remainer? Not much. I reckon people will point to the backstop but that doesn't indicate that she is a remainer, it just indicates that she has more of a conscience in terms of the GFA than the absolute ****s in the ERG. Although it does seem to be the narrative now that if you don't actively want no deal then you are essentially a remainer. Not that I think she will even be too averse to no deal if push comes to shove.

I think undoubtedly she was. One of the things she did say shortly before the referendum was that it would be ludicrous to think that if you have different customs regimes north and south of the border in Ireland that you could avoid a hard border between the two.

And in fairness, she had a point.

She is only a Leaver now because she's totally dependent on Leavers to keep her job.

Interesting to see the NZ Prime Minister showing a balance of Leadership and compassion to a grieving NZ - makes it so apparent just how deficient May is, a robot, devoid of feelings and operating (badly) in a Whitehall bubble.

I find it amazing that Leadsome was effectively bounced out of the leadership contest for pointing this out................

Whether she is a leaver or remainer closet or out loud and proud, she has put party politics above everything else in this negoitiations. You are right about immigration and she is more than likely a closet racist who hates herself for the fact she failed as home secretary. But above she is a hypocrite and her mantra no deal is better than a bad deal will stick with her and her party if she somehow managed to blackmail MP's into voting her deal through.

She’s a leaver because she wants to leave. She used to be a Remainer because she was toeing the Cameron government line and thought remain would win and she wanted to be on the winning side. She’s definitely showing her true colours now. This fanatical push for the hardest Brexit possible has already cost the country billions and she doesn’t give a shit. If she was a closet Remainer she would have got a cross party consensus for a soft Brexit and marginalised the ERG.
