Swansea (QF) Post Match thread

The first post I made and we were 2-0 down and I honestly thought we weren’t getting out of it. If you’re going to quote me, get it correct. I didn’t say ‘embarrassing’, I actually said ‘laughing stock’.

We were certainly shy of putting the chances away and believe if they had VAR, it would certainly have seen us out. Their penalty was fair enough, but the dive to go with it was ridiculous. We rarely get those. Their second was a great sweeping move similar to us. Bernardo was amazing yet again. Our penalty was one of those that had it been given against us, we would be furious, but we have had enough go against anyway. Our 3rd would have been ruled offside by VAR, it wouldn’t matter that the defender had his hands on Kuns neck, pushing him down.
All in all, this has to be one of the greatest FA cup escapes, even though we dominated possession, their 11 man white wall, did give us chances, but as usual, we squandered them, or we would have been out of sight.
Don’t fancy Wolves in the Semi, they look like they’re on a mission.
I think we're better than wolves I think we could beat them but for gods sake so negative!

never been in so much pain watching the game yesterday ??? all the hope and dreams of winning the FA cup again was slowly going down the pan, forget the quadruple i don't it is possible with the injuries to key players and asking them to recover properly without game time will be a big ask

anyway back to the game and what was i watching city in full control and just a matter of time before we scored a hat full of goals and it could have been over before 20 minutes but we just turned off and got so sloppy at the back and swansea could have won the tie before half time ??? seen all sorts of games and swings and roundabouts but this was just nuts, i dare say pep wen't crazy at halftime and forget teacups being smashed ?? the whole of the kitchen sink with the pots in must have slung at the players

funny in a space of 45 minutes the whole thing change and we live to fight another tie another wembley trip ?? this club will be the death of me and how many times do we have to do things the hard way ?? this is deep in the clubs DNA no mater how good or bad we are we do it the hard way nothing comes easy ???

even united getting knockout and city being the highest ranked club left in the cup you just now its not going to be a easy ride ?? and in fact we would have played better if we drew united, its the so called smaller clubs we struggle with so the draw is not looking good, not going to dig anybody out, because we win and lose as a team and its easy to point the finger and blame somebody but we won in the end and the result is all that matters

Once he made contact with ball it was no longer in sterlings possession he changed the direction of the ball and therefore sterling would have to change his direction and pace to recover it. Either way if it was given against us I would be ragin it's as soft as they come I'm of the opinion he got enough of the ball. As I have said before I'm sure we would have won the game without it.
Here we have to disagree. The defender barely touched the ball, the ball was still travelling in the direction Sterling wanted it to go, Sterling would not have had to change direction or pace to get to the ball. Therefore it is a foul.
I agree with the last point.

anyone got a pic of the offside decision looking down the line? every pic i've seen of it is from an angle and therefore the offside looks exaggerated. i really dont think theres was that much in it, a leg at most

That's the thing isnt it. Under the current interpretation, if there is any part of the body, in this case merely a lower leg, or even a foot, which is capable of scoring a goal, which is ahead of the line, then its deemed offside. It seemed like for many years in the past, and i think should be the case now, was if the 2 torsos are level, as they were yesterday, then the attacker should get the benefit and it should count. Clearly in the new VAR-precise era, that wont be the case...

I did this using BBC footage. It's not inline. I think he's a foot offside.

Sorry if already mentioned but their manager came across really well in a BT post-match interview.

Refused to get drawn into moaning, despite the best efforts of Humphries & Hartson

Must have been very proud of his team's efforts, particularly that excellent second goal

Graham strikes me as the best Potter since Brain, sorry Brian

(No, don't go down the wizard route)

Personally, wouldn't trust a Mahrez or Delph again this season. Wouldn't be sad to see either sold this summer (ban permitting)

With the caveat Fabian really played his part last season and has just been overtaken by Zin being so good.
Can’t disagree with any of that,Delph looks nowhere near what he was last season ( yes he’s been injured) as for Mahrez fantastically talented player but also very frustrating constantly wants to check back and slows play up for me ..

Your line is not parallel with 6 yard line, off kilter.
You can see that the effect of distortion by looking at the dead-ball line and hoardings. The further you go 'back' the more the angle changes. I did it again, but I am not uploading it because it still shows him a foot offside.

My first post ! I've followed the debate in the media ( Man City News Now - useful facility ! ) and I keep on reading ( re. Sterling's penalty ) that the Swansea player gets to the ball first ( e.g. Sunday Times -" The American stuck out a foot, caught ball rather than man, but Sterling tumbled" ). It is also the same story on the bluemoon thread. I am confused :
I keep on returning to the YouTube highlights coverage of the game to reassure myself that I am not mistaken - Sterling gets in front of the Swansea man ; he cuts across him : he stretches (with his right foot) and toe-pokes the ball forward and is then-inevitably- wiped out by the challenge from the Swansea player. The Swansea player does not get the ball ! So why all the fuss? Need I ask ?. It's a clear penalty. ( Oh, and by the way - why so little comment about the two-handed shove in Aguero's back as he scores the 3rd goal ? )
Agenda?

I agree, but wouldn't look as far off side :-).

The problem is that these players should be doing their bit when needed. They aren't which leads to fuck ups or Pep relying on a ever dwindling pool of players. There's a couple that need to sort their act out rapidly.

Really loved delph last year
But he doesn’t learn, pep won’t give him another chance
11 men v Wigan and we win
Zinchenko adds so much more
For me I would buy chillwell keep zin and just hope mendy gets fit

Mahrez isn’t a pep player. Expensive mistake for me

I've only seen what everyone else has seen, but IMO he was offside.
oh i've no doubt he was offside but i think many are making a complete meal out of it. was nowhere near as blatant as folk make out. Players are wrongly called onside all the time, just seems to be a colossal issue when its a city player
