ITV didn’t do NH racing any favours by keeping Up For Review in distant camera shot after its fall at the first. I read the horse was in such distress it was euthanised immediately and without a screen being erected. It was a sickening sight.

I’m not really a racing enthusiast, nor did I bet Tiger Roll, but when he cruised up to join the leaders three out I got serious goosebumps. My horse Walk Of The Mill still had a chance but i’d Already switched allegiances and started cheering for TR. What a performance, what a superstar. Haven’t felt like that since the Denman/Kauto Star Gold Cups. Looks like Red Rum will pass the baton on at last, I dread to think what odds TR will go off next year.... Could he possibly be evens?!

Anyway, 8 winners and a solid ew over the festival so very decent for me. Very sad to see the first horse death in 7 years. Despite that they are doing a brilliant job at reducing the risks.

The counter argument is that lowering the jumps to something between the current height and hurdles is that the horses would be going at greater speeds. Foin Avon is one of the lowest jumps on the course but has a high percentage of fallers as the horses get complacent and don’t give it enough respect.

Difficult to find the magic height but the deaths are reducing.

Yes. I know it will not happen for a while, but it will if horses keep dying and enough of us want it. Eventually enough will and races that kill horses will be deemed cruel and unnecessary.

It was the first horse to die in the National since 2012, hardly prolific and there will never be enough of you in existence to get horse racing stopped.
