Var debate 2019/20

Lots of if onlys! No-one blocked Llorente’s run which started at the back post. He ran past all our defenders. And there is an angle that clearly shows the ball deflecting off his elbow. Watching the pictures shown to the ref he wasn’t shown that angle. We’re out but what an effort; mistakes cost us the goals but let’s not forget we did win on the night and we go again on Saturday. Still a lot to play for. COYB

That's the only thing I'm angry about. It was criminal to show him just one angle and one that looks like no touch was made. I think it was good call by ref, but if other angle was shown and it had to be shown, maybe he'd be under mental pressure or whatever to cancel it. Or that Clattenburg is 100% right and all that was important to Cekir was that he saw that the hip was the last part that touched the ball.

The angle with the French commentator filmed from behind the goal was the coverage I was watching in the Philippines and is the one shows he moves his elbow towards the ball. Absolutely every person watching the game in the bar with me thought it wouldn’t be given.. granted there were only about 7 people but none were City or British for that that matter.... so no blind hopefulness (aside from myself).

Gutted. We were mostly great last night!

Clattenburg's actual words: "If the ball had gone in off his arm or hand then it would have been disallowed, even if the contact was not deliberate."

It doesn't say "directly" and that would imply that the ball changing direction(it does) made no difference when it mostly does.

You can see it affected Ederson because he had no idea where it was going to the point where he didn't dive, he looks like he's going to and then stuttered and changed direction when it hits his elbow to me. He ended up swiping at it blindly.

Watch the change of direction from Ederson, he's banking on that ball going left and it ends up going right... we will never know for sure but I trust his judgement over any armchair expert here.

Why even have the ref adjudicate.

Look at other sports and when VAR is used you don't see the referees going to view one camera shot of the action , its determined by the person in the booth as such.

Notwithstanding your view on the matter it should be taken out of the refs hands completely and this has to be one of the changes made to bring it into line with other sports.

Takes a while for the incompetent people in charge of these matters to see the forest from the trees something they need to get right ASAP.

We have been robbed by incompetence as much if not more so than corruption.

Yes we shouldn't be in this position based on the 180 minutes but officialdom has played a big role in stuffing up our progress again.

BT should never be given the responsibility of providing the angles again, if the rumour is true that they chose them. Give it to a Canadian broadcaster, they seem the least corruptible... they drive with headlights on in the day.

There was a angle here from the broadcaster in Australia Optus Sports that showed the deflection off Llorente's arm but it was never shown to the ref when he checked it, I'm not sure where Optus Sports get their feed from.

They had a segment on the post game show dedicated to that VAR review and all the panelists were baffled and said how amateurish it was that the ref wasn't shown that view, especially in a tournament of the magnitude of the Champions League.

It leaves a bitter taste in your mouth to lose like that, or have VAR and it not be used properly at such a big moment, with all the angles shown to the ref. Not the reason we lost the tie, but it makes you wonder.

Not the only reason but they get that right and we most likely win the tie.

I’ll watch the BT coverage off my sky box when home from my hols... but put it this way..

I was watching the game in the Philippines, not sure which network but it was Sky something (not our Sky has Star insignia) and the coverage was in French. And when the Lorente goal was reviewed initially I was surprised until I saw the replay showing he elbowed it into the goal... as in, he moved his elbow towards the ball and it then bounced off his hip. I breathed a Huge sigh of relief when the Turkish Dracula motioned for video because it was clearly getting chalked off.

It wasn’t. I and the rest of the bar couldn’t understand either.

Anyway... my point is I really want to know what BT showed as I expected an absolute shit storm on here claiming UEFA corruption etc. But when I returned to the hotel and logged in there was little which tells me the coverage in the uk was different to what was shown on the coverage I witnessed. Honestly I was totally shocked the site wasn’t down with agenda threads and instead people were saying the first leg cost us and Laporte was to blame etc when in my mind we were totally robbed by officiating. Weird.

If Cakir was shown the angle he should have done there's no doubt he'd have ruled it out.

The offside was the right call unfortunately. Aguero is in an offside position when Bernardo (intentionally) plays the ball.
*playing the ball includes interceptions etc. which rebound to a teammate (Aguero), not just passes

I was watching the TNT one so I can't say. It's amazing the work BT and Sky do to down play incorrect calls for some and claim injustice where there was none for others. Some here still fall for it, they let them write the narrative all the time.

Remember last seasons Mané stonewall red? 2 weeks of moaning from all of them.

On the replay I saw I was probably more certain that this goal wouldn’t stand than I was that Mane would be sent off after seeing his slow mo Bruce Lee impression.. that’s how insanely obvious it appeared on the footage I was watching

So that confirms BT were in control of the angles shown to the ref. As well as the fact that they didn't give him the angles they should have... They showed the same angle 3 times it look like to me. They also assert that you are not allowed to gain an advantage with the use of the hand in a goalscoring opportunity, deliberate or not. The ball changes direction.

Something is very wrong when BT Sports are controlling outcome of the game. We need to make some noise about this, I'd love us to sue the bastards or at least have them investigated to prove they deprived the ref of an important angle deliberately.

They did something similar last season with the Sterling penalty incident at Anfield. That was more about downplaying the robbery for the masses to hype Liverpool up, this time they are influencing the refs.

I don't want VAR in the PL anymore if they or Sky have control that's for sure.

Anyone who thinks this is a legitimate goal is a fucking moron.

Showing that one angle only was criminal thing really. I just can't understand how's that possible to happen.

This does demand a proper investigation as to why ref was shown the inconclusive angles.

They show it once and then cnuts completely take the replay away. So unfortunate and sad tbh
