I do it a lot if I think the odds are silly - usually only £10 or £20. Like you say it softens the blow. I bet on Wigan beating us in the FA cup at 25-1 - putting £30 on. It didn’t make losing any easier on that day though but it was a nice sum of money at a time when I was skint.
