He's most effective counterattacking a high line or broken play. He used to break into space for a ball knocked in front of him. It doesn't happen much these days. Teams sit deeper, KDB's been injured. And since January we've been grinding our way to the top of the league with the emphasis on not conceding. Leroy doesn't seem to do that kind of shit. He's in a highly paid, high pressure job. It's right that he gets chewed out when he makes stupid mistakes. If he can't handle it, he'll never realize his potential. He can't point to his stats and claim immunity. Aguero didn't and he HAS got stats. I would guess that Guardiola's looking to see some kind of evolution in Sane's game. And it's not happening atm. He's going to stay out wide until he shows that he can be a consistent performer out wide. Last night Walker played a pass into touch between Zinchenko and Sane. Guardiola had a rant at Sane. He was shouting something like You're supposed to be wide. Wide. Wide. He'll never get to move inside until he performs consistently out wide. The manager won't risk losing the ball in central positions because of a player's lack of focus. When you've spread your team out wide in possession, if you lose it on the wing you can block the move. Lose it in the middle of the pitch and it's a lot harder to control the counter because you've emptied out your midfield somewhat by making the pitch big when in possession. Sane's flakiness precludes him from playing in certain positions in certain scenarios.
