Game of Thrones (season 8)

I liked the whole season. Thought the ending was necessary, if not the most exciting.

Think it'll be an excellent binge watch, as many of the pacing issues are episode specific.

Genuinely, I am highly amused that (largely) those critical of this series liked the final episode and those who defended it throughout hated it.

I'm not sure what it tells us, but it's undoubtedly profound.

Genuinely think some couldn’t handle it was ending , Chuck in every tom, dick and Harry having an opinion on social media nowadays and everyones views are skewed - most of the people slating it are staring at their twitter and Facebook throughout these episodes.
Takeaway all the hype and nonsense and you are left with one of the best shows of all time.

I think people go too deep with stuff like GOT and try to be experts about character arcs, plot armour and fucking foreshadowing.

In my opinion it's one of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen and that's its purpose, to entertain.

If you thought it was so shit you wouldn't have kept watching it until the very last minute of the last ever episode.

I agree about it being one of the best of all time, but this last season means it will never be the best which it should be.

I think back to two of my favourite shows / movies. The sopranos and LOTR films. Both had incredible endings (for very different reasons) that left me totally in awe of them and gutted they were finished. This ending and series as a whole left me not really caring at all that it’s all finished.

You need to take into account the sunk cost fallacy with this show to be fair.

As Paul Calf used to say "bag o' shite".

This happens with all decent TV shows. The only one that ended good was breaking bad.

I actually told the TV to fuck off when the credits started rolling.

Having binged it it's 6.5/10, maybe 7 at best, for me.

Throughout, not just this final season.

I can appreciate that writing an ending that everyone likes is nigh on impossible.

But they've managed to come up with one that almost everybody hates.

Maybe it was always going to be impossible to achieve the same level again one last time, after how it had been built up, but i feel like all the lore, all the traits and deceit that has been built up over the years, it's like they forgot almost all of it to get it over and done with. Just didn't feel like even the same show, regardless of how it ended its not been in the same class unfortunately.

This last season has been rushed, lazy and quite a bit boring. When the hell did game of thrones ever make you just go 'meh'? Felt like that ending was the alternative one they filmed just incase a leak got out and never really intended to use, and then they didn't know how and when to actually end it so just showed meaningless shots until the credits rolled.

Maybe they were trying to make the point that life goes on. Well, it certainly does for me, not going to be mourning over that hot mess. Will be rewatching at some point, but only up to the end of s7 I think. Shame, shame!

For what it’s worth I thought for the first 6 seasons it was the best tv show I’d ever watched but the last 2 seasons really let it down. Instead of dreading it finishing I’m glad it has.

The storylines and dialogue that once made it great, gave way to fan pleasing and CGI. I rated it 9.5 for the first 6 seasons and 6 for the last two. The actual ending suited it.

Spoiler

Did I read right at the end John was leaving the nights watch behind, had become king of the free folk and was leading them back to their true home? He gave a wry smile in the last scene, a nod perhaps to ‘you know nothing John Snow’. It felt right.

Was all a bit rushed especially the greyworm stuff and I’d imagine the book will embellish more eg the influence of Davos in ensuring the Lords were called to that meeting and John and Tyrion weren’t just killed.

Yeah, firmly in the 'underwhelmed' camp. Praying Martin finishes the books though as all the story beats were fine for me, just poorly executed and rushed in a way that made it jarring to watch. I felt detached from it all which is the last thing I would have imagined before the season began.
With the extra tools at his disposal and freedom/time to add in all the nuances required I'm sure GRRM can make it an epic worthy of the name.
But will he ever finish it? Fingers crossed.

Just watched it after a 24 hour social media prohibition (for the third time this final series).

I laughed, I cried, I cheered.

But mostly I laughed, and mainly at inappropriate moments.

Is it an ending? Probably not.

GoT series to come:

Queen in the North
Arya Goes West
Grey Worm and the Travels Naath
South, To Save HBO

Them spinoffs will be shite lol needs Georges touch. What did you cry at? I thought it was all a bit meh and didn't feel emotional in the slightest, wished we would have had longer to get use to seeing dany in that way, would have made it better.

When I laughed *too* much. ;-)

Hahahaha at Sam in that stupid outfit? Or when Bronn appears out of no where? He was another brilliant character cast aside for a while.
Or Drogon understanding the fundamental cause of the conflict in Westeros was the corrupting nature of the Iron Throne, but not understanding whodonit.
