Matthijs de Ligt

The fee has never been a problem with this man, it's the wages.

This is why we should push ahead and sign Koulibaly. Lower wages, but might cost 80-90m. Well worth the money IMO.

Tbh I don’t think his wage demands are as high as people are making out.. I honestly believe we’re still in with a chance to sign the lad.. one thing for sure is he won’t be coming here for the money so if his rumoured high demands are true then I agree he won’t be coming for sure, but if he wants a team who plays great football with a great coach and for footballing reasons we must be in with a massive shot to sign him. Fingers crossed I still have hope
If it wasn't wage related he could have agreed to sign for us or Barcelona weeks ago. The fact he’ still being pushed toward PSG or united trying to push up offers shows he’s at least thinking about putting wages first, think we drew a line under it weeks ago.

Very very simple this.

If he wants to win shit and likes the idea of winning shit, and winning shit year on year, then he needs to come to city.

We win shit...

I'm sure we would be absolutely thrilled to negotiate with Napoli again .

He said he wasn't going to do anything until after the Nations League about a month ago, don't see any reason to disbelieve him as he didn't say much about a move until the end of the tournament publicly.

These issues are never as simple as people try to make out. At Barcelona there's quite a few issues - the fact they've already got 3 excellent CB's being one of them, the weird direction the side is going, and the fact their finances are a mess.

If those things are giving you pause for thought, someone coming along and offering you £25m extra along the life of a contract, and with a clear plan of how you're going to fit in would complicate things, as would suddenly having to choose between cities and great managers too.

Personally I think it's a far more sensible approach then just signing the first offer shoved in front of you just because it's Barca.

He will cost something similar to Maguire anyway.

I'd rather negotiate with Napoli for months than get a deal done in a few weeks and be completely ripped off by Leicester. Koulibaly is different gravy, Maguire is a good player at best.

Otamendi not getting any younger. Stones wasn't trusted in the run in. The likes of García some way off being ready. So we need a long term replacement for VK. This kid does fit the bill.

203 pages for a player that we were never going to sign due to who is agent is, would have been great to get him though

Frenkie is the one we should and could have sealed , as bad as missing out on Hazard 7 years ago

Apparently the Rags are saying that De ligt has said it’s too early for Barca ? So now they think he’s going there agree with a lot on here would prefer de ligt over Maguire any day of the week, I think the wages he will be demanding though are stupid,we have the funds just not the wages, and we need to stick to the way we do things, our you will get every tom dick and Harry coming for a payday.

Don't see us signing either of them personally .

De Ligt isn't coming here, not a chance City give this kid anything near £150.000 never mind £350.000 it just doesn't work.

The transfer fee isn't the problem

19 yo & next move makes him A multi millionaire 65m over 5 years wow it doesnt add up fucking absalute crazy money & that folks is your answer & why he won't be at City, PSG & UTD will throw everything at it & wont give a fuck which players they upset in fact it may get them a wage rise, look at the fiasco Sanshez has caused, its put UTD back 3 years at least, PSG are the same 1st Naymar then Mbappa & now both want away.

Move on close the thread not worth the Craic, let's talk about players with a big possibility & not some greedy twat who just sees €

He wanted to sign for Barca. How could we have sealed it ?

What a waste going to PSG! A one team league and at 19 already thinking about moving just for higher wages!

Never a player i was set on,i think he's potentially world class but he's a way off that yet and currently very overrated.

The money involved is fucking mental,i'm happy he's going to a club where he'll be able to achieve his ambitions.......

Besides.....We have a kid in our academy who i think can be just as good.

Garcia is younger too and going to be a Star imo.

Another youngster with his head turned by money by virtue of a fucking greedy agent no doubt.

Apparently PSG have offered De Ligt €350,000 a week to go there! Utter bollocks from a league that has literally no revenue coming in ie TV money and I’m sure their prize money will be way less than the premier league?!

Psg is a great move for him if true. At 19 he would have been crazy to come to the Prem. In France it's a step above the Dutch league, he can financially be secure and remain relatively fresh for the Champs league and the Dutch national team. Very very good move as he can consider the Prem, Liga or Bundesliga when he hits his early to mid twenties. His agent has looked after de ligt and likely himself well on that deal if its true.
