You're a moron for feeling the need to reply to something Pep said with a "sarcastic piss take".
Actions speak louder than words, if Pep just wanted a big unit why doesn’t he buy Jannick Vestergaard?

Oh and not to be pedantic but the sarcastic piss take was about my comment about Sterling, not Pep’s comment about lacking height but don’t let that get in the way of a good story.

Are the 25+ pages on this all because of a L’equipe tweet, who is notoriously unreliable, or is another source backing up this rumour?

Risk vs reward

If Pep thought height and physicality were so vitally important he wouldn’t have ever bought Stones or Laporte. There’s taller, more physical central defenders as I’m sure you will agree. The fact is playing the way we do, controlling possession is far more valuable to protecting a lead than being able to defend the odd set piece and punt upfield. That’s not to say height and physicality isn’t important but that’s were you have to get the best all round fit, someone who can do everything well but doesn’t have any significant glaring weaknesses.

Of course we’re going to get caught out occasionally, it’s football shit happens but you don’t try and rectify one minor issue by buying a big ćunt. That’s like having a mint missus but then fucking off with a big fat lass because she’s got bigger tits, even though she’s a cross between Luke Chadwick and Phil Jones.

Agree with most of this, except Laporte and Stones are both well over 6 foot and with Ederson are by far our tallest players.
We have the shortest team in the premier league and have won everything but that doesn’t mean we should go out and buy centre halves who are 5 foot something as some are suggesting.

An absolutely beautiful analogy.

Its a pretty random thing to tweet however if no substance to it. l'equipe would normally just stick to regurgitating all the other news about or making up something like Bonucci to City.

Ake could be almost a signing that comes about and someone has just leaked the interest.

Higher than what United have offered?

Time to walk away. He's not that good.
If the money is sat in the bank, I would use it if it improved City. I agree with many other fans, the guy is not the world's best defender. When you think of players like Thiago Silva, or Baresi, even Boateng when he was good at Bayern, he's not in that league, but on the other hand he would improve City and make us stronger and at the end of the day, that is how you judge a transfer, does it make you better?

Putting him on a par with the world's greatest defenders might be a fun academic exercise but it's not really relevant in terms of improving City's side. Can we wait 2 years for the next Maldini to emerge, and who is to say that City would be able to land that man. We don't seem able yet to beat the Barcelona's and Real Madrids to the very best players.

You would have to think the rags will go higher and very quickly you are looking at 90 M plus. Are we that certain about Harry?
Ironically that's probably what makes me favour this deal, because I have more faith in what Maguire can bring than gamble on a well thought of overseas defender who may or may not make it it English football. See Man Utd's problems. Exception is Ake. I think he would be a very good buy for City.

I love this time of the season. So much interest and no one's view on a footballer is any better than anyone elses which is what makes football great. We can all have an opinion. Often you can be right with one opinion, and catastrophically wrong with the next.

Just have to bid 70 and tell him to dig his heals in
If he says city only then they sell to us
Otherwise he may as well stay and see if united get in champs league next year

Prefer maguire as he is a beast at winning headers in both boxes
We need a bit of height like Rodri and maguire if the ball skills are there as well

It would be a very sensible transfer. PL experience, solid in defence, good left foot, can pass the ball and he's got years ahead of him. At £40m it would be close to a potential steal. With the ridiculous fee that Leicester are demanding for Maguire then a £40m deal for Ake makes much more sense.

Does anyone know if he just qualifies as English on UEFA rules or just misses out by a few months, as if hes in then clearly that would be a huge benefit to city?
