Matthijs de Ligt

would or could we be any more attractive to a young talented kid Playing in the best league ( im biased) and one of if not THE best Coach in world football Having just done attaining a domestic clean sweep with some world class talent of our own. Are we always destined to be behind Barca and Real Madrid when it comes to the very cream of young talent

Well de Ligt won't probably sign for Barça or Real, will he?
Each negotiation is different. In this case, we (and other clubs) had contacts with de Ligt's entourage since a while back, then Barça made a strong move for him and it looked like he was going there, since he liked the club. When that didn't work out the way they planned we were there waiting for our chance. It seems that it worked out well for us because we built connections with his agent and entourage for a while.
As for visibility on the market, you're already in a good position what with your economic power, home placements and coach. What will help is just results, both consistency in the PL (but we all know the PL is a fickle mistress) and good results in the last stages of the CL (which I think would make the biggest improvement for your cause).
Real and Barça are always the biggest suitors though, and that's because of their long string of results.

Well, people oppose de Jong being a Barça fan and de Ligt transfer saga but the former was very very close to sign for PSG. He said it himself.
It needed a last minute personal travel from the president of Barça with reassurance of playing time and increased financial offer for him to change his mind at the last time. And don't forget Barça had to agree to take the son of his agent as a player for Barça B. From Dutch fans, the latter is not even fit to be a player for academy of low profile Eredivisie sides.
For all account, de Ligt has acted exactly the same way his friend de Jong had before. The way they dragged their transfer is similar. The only difference is Barça didn't get all in yet. If they don't, he will do as de Jong would have done and will sign for the best offer in term of salary and playing time which is Juventus at the moment.

Thanks for the additional information which I did not know about.

I still think it is disappointing that talented players of such a young age should be driven by money, when they are virtually assured to be incredibly wealthy anyway. Just my personal point of view .

How much money do they need to enjoy a happy and successful career and later life ? Players nowadays are not cheap slave labour.

They're professionals so it will always be about the money first.
Assuming all of these top clubs are offering similar money, then it's down to the other things.

On the football side; playing time, squad quality, manager reputation, trophies fighting for, training facilities, stadium etc.

Then the domestic side, house, neighbourhood, schools, climate, security etc.

So lots to think about, but your wife and family have to be happy or it will never work out.

Can anyone imagine what it would be like to go home to an unhappy wife??

So reports now that Juve are offering €49m plus ‘add ons’. So Ajax are subsidising Pizzaboy’s exorbitant fee if those reports are correct.

Hmm - so many thorny decisions at 19 years of age.

whilst I agree its probably about the 10%'ers and agents who get a cut that are more interested in the money. I think any body who plays in most major top flight leagues will be stupidly rich as a result and in the end when they approach the end of a career the medals and titles assume massive proportions. I am sure Shearer earned more overall than Lawrenson and Hansen over his career but his trophy cabinet at home would have had very little by comparison to theirs. So when they meet to play golf arriving in their flash cars coming from their big homes in nice areas as Shearer goes to tee off and Hansen says to Lawrenson " how many league titles and cup winners medals have you got Mark? " must make Alan - 1 League title - Shearer slice his drive in annoyance...............

What does a happy one look like

Big transfer saga of the summer isn’t it? It’s bound to be!

Personally can’t wait for the drama queen to get it over with

The summer's very long still, and there are a lot of overpaid players who can't wait to start the dances ;) woo-hoo

Heard Ajax had a verbal agreement with de Ligt last year saying that if he'd waited one more year before leaving, they'd have let him go for €50m. Verbal agreements aren't binding of course, but maybe that's why Juve offered €55m at first. I don't blame Ajax for raising their demands this window given the value of the player, but a top club should be forward-thinking enough to be able to keep gentlemen's agreements.
Here's a tweet but it's also reported on De Telgraaf if you're willing to use Google Translate:

So much for this ‘super agent’. He should have made sure it was written down
