You are talking about political appointments, they have always been made and such appointees have a government remit to direct civil servants etc but they are not career civil servants. The new Labour leadership has openly called for the replacement of Permanent Secretary heads of department with Party Apparatchiks - the Politburo model.

Fact-checking

Fact-checking is the act of checking factual assertions in non-fictional text in order to determine the veracity and correctness of the factual statements in the text. This may be done either before (ante hoc) or after (post hoc) the text has been published or otherwise disseminated.[1] Fact-checking may be done privately, such as when a magazine editor wants to verify the contents of a news article, either before or after publication. This is called internal fact-checking.[2] Alternatively, the fact-checking analysis may be published, in which case it is called external fact-checking.[2]

Ante hoc fact-checking (fact-checking before dissemination) aims to remove errors and allow text to proceed to dissemination (or to rejection if it fails confirmations or other criteria). Post hoc fact-checking is most often followed by a written report of inaccuracies, sometimes with a visual metric from the checking organization (e.g., Pinocchios from The Washington Post Fact Checker, or TRUTH-O-METER ratings from PolitiFact). Several organizations are devoted to post hoc fact-checking, such as FactCheck.org and PolitiFact.

Research on the impact of fact-checking is relatively recent but the existing research suggests that fact-checking does indeed correct misperceptions among citizens, as well as discourage politicians from spreading misinformation.

Please try it .......

Lamentably, wind up or not, there’s a ring of truth in what he’s posted. Our politics is utterly broken and we are being governed by people deserving nothing but contempt. On that basis, why should I, or anyone who also holds that opinion, view being ruled from Brussels in an entirely negative light?
No worse than Belfast being run from London being run from Brussels.
As wind ups go, it's not bad.

This this is the most detailed definition of fascism I have seen, covering 14 points. I totally agree that using the word as an easy insult is abhorrent. However, those that don’t recognise the beginnings of some of the behaviours and traits in today’s U.K. have their eyes wide shut.

1. Powerful and persistent nationalism

Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights

Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain special cases. The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause

The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities, liberals, communists, socialists, terrorists, etc.

4. Supremacy of the Military

Soldiers and military service are glamorized. Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding.

5. Rampant Sexism

The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy. Maintenance of a patriarchal status quo is the norm.

6. Controlled Mass Media

Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship of the media is very common.

7. Obsession with National Security

Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined

Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even if sometimes the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government’s policies or actions.

9. Corporate Power is Protected

The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed

Because the organizing power of labor is often the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated, or are severely suppressed.

11. Disdain for Intellectuals, Centers Of Education and the Arts

Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment

Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism.

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption

Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

14. Fraudulent Elections

Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
Sounds like the USA.

France is to back Laura Kövesi as the first European Public Prosecutor rather than its own nominee. Which is big news given her tough reputation and it’s going to be popcorn time when she starts issuing the first European arrest warrant as EPPO chief prosecutor for individuals from non-signatory EU states such as the UK who have committed fraud or other serious crimes in EPPO signatory EU states. Remit of the office includes looking at cross border VAT fraud.

This new office and appointee is likely to have impact on EU/UK future talks.

We'll be OK, nobody will mess with the 51st state of the USA.

Farage acting like a **** again in the European Parliament.

Also the pound plunged following Johnson and Hunt saying they wouldn’t go for a backstop at all, even with a time limit.

Grieve has said he’s going to try and bring down the government if either twat tries No Deal.

Feel like this is reaching a climax and Brexit will be binned, for the time being at least.

Another Brexit MEP on Newsnight ready to make a fortune out of No Deal by setting aside funds to buy distressed properties after an expected slump in the property market.
