I've also mentioned this a few times, but I'll also keep it short. My wife works for HMRC and what i wrote wasn't an opinion. It's the actual reality of what will happen if we leave.

We have had this conversation before and I 100% disagree with your wife as well.

100% checks is for the birds.

As of Feb 2019 this was sent to all business vat registered and trading with the EU.

Not a single mention of 100% checks on goods.

Its also pertinent to say that even in the event of a no deal brexit, UK business will still be able to use the CTC.

Gov/HMRC advice to business.

Agree with the last line and first paragraph but the middle one will definitely cause issues when it comes to MFN.

How will it unless we are using different tariffs which we wont because we wont want to fall foul of MFN and neither will the EU?

I was responding about your post relating to goods coming in from outside the EU. That link discusses goods from the EU and is therefore not relevant to what we were talking about. And I do love it when 'the internet' thinks it understands things better than the people who actually have to do those jobs.

Other than what your wife has told you can you post links to back up what she and you are saying?

The internet doesnt think either when its links to the very organisation she works for unless you are telling me she is the boss and they are wrong?

No country checks 100% of goods. You keep mentioning it yet I don’t recall anyone saying there would be a 100% check on goods. Goods will be checked. Yes. 100% of them. No.

Why do i mention it Bob?

Trust me i have no desire to keep mentioning it other than when i have to in response to some that has.

@blueinsa, don't know where those links are due to me never needing them as a result of knowing the people who work there.

It'd be a great help if you could enquire. I'm sure knowing someone who works at HMRC would be able to direct us to an appropriate link confirming said concerns.

There is a lot of ‘engagement ongoing’ :)

Canada has hit the buffers. Agreement was in place but Canada has pulled the plug. Japan isn’t playing ball.

I can say with confidence none of this will be ready by 31st October. Very little will be ready by 31st October. But then Johnson did say no deal was 1 in a million chance so maybe that’s why nothing is ready.

Because quite simply it doesn’t cover all bases still, it will need to provide for 100% that passes through. The checks away from the border is an absolute necessity I agree with that.

What will pass through?

Goods produced in the ROI going to the UK and on to the EU will and vica versa.

I dont see goods produced in say Argentina bound for Austria going through the border and if they did i would be looking for a new freight forwarder.
