Nor I imagine others struggling to get paperwork they never thought they would need. To be honest I’m not convinced that when it comes to no deal and all 27 having to agree a future EU/UK deal, pissing off the citizens of said countries is entirely the best move.

Unless you go in for NI/EU compliance or significant spot checks ( possible but politically difficult) no amount of tinkering will stop non compliant goods or tariff smuggling into the EU.

The only acceptable solution across the divide is the current status quo.
