A Tory MP trying to rationalise the Govts actions. Too wordy. Too long. As soon as you feel the need to justify something and take forever doing so means you know in your gut it’s wrong.

Accepts people would expect MPs to sit during these testing times but protests they wouldn’t normally sit during Sept (well these ain’t normal times) and squirms over the fact that MPs were to discuss doing away with the three week Sept recess. Ends with ‘well we must hold our nerve’. So three years in and it’s still about ‘nerve’ and ‘spirit’. Ah well.

In these testing times, didn't MP's still vote for summer recess?

King all the way - even for a day if he calls the bluff of so many people now wanting to teach Brexit voters a "lesson" - even at the expense of the entire country.

No guts, no glory.

Boris is fine by me, but then I am a right-wing racist French hating pleb ;)
don't forget the Germans, the identikit 17 million Brexit voters all hate them too :)

Its not Brexit they should be discussing, it is his attempts at overthrowing parliament that should be the main concern.

The comparisons with Cromwell should not be ignored, he imposed military rule after all.
I think it's apt to point out that Cromwell was the reaction to a monarch acting against the will of parliament not the cause.

Just listening to the good folk of Maesteg on 5Live - they all voted Leave - they are all adamant life in the valleys was better before we joined the EEC ( Yep really ) and want out asap as the EU does nothing for them.

This week the town hall in Maesteg receives £3.2m in EU funding................you can't make this shit up - but they are Leavers so not thick.
Hmmm - where did the EU get the £3.2m from?

So the Queen isn't supposed to show any preference/ objection towards political issues but she's fucked Democracy over by picking a side ?
Sorry - but that is a ridiculous statement and simply demonstrates you do not have the most basic understanding of how things should/do work

She has done the one thing - the only thing - that the monarch has the option to do in this circumstance.

In these testing times, didn't MP's still vote for summer recess?

Yes. Not a great move in my view either. But they at least had the option to vote on it. This move by the PM removes the vote option and further limits the time to sit during these testing times. Parliament and MPs can vote to be dicks or not. What I object to is removing the right of our elected representatives to vote on whether to be dicks or not.

After all how else do you judge the worth of your MP then how he votes? Well other than supine, angst ridden articles. Might as well has just said ‘My name is Reek’ and saved us the bother of reading it.

Of course, but EFTA in particular was the softest and most workable Brexit solution (given its already effectively in place) so why did they vote against it?

My guess is pretty simple, they didn't want any of the options because they wanted remain and obviously hardline Brexiteers stuck to their guns for a harder deal or no deal at all.

Remain wasn't on the table though so the legislative default aka the hardline no deal is the defacto route of last resort.
It only needed 11 more Tories to vote for the motion to get it carried.

It's exactly where I once grew up (not that it should define anybody) that I have complete empathy for communities that were left behind long ago, and have certainly seen little benefit of being in Europe.

As for my own children, they will be just fine. They will contribute to society in their way and if they want to spread their wings one day, they still will.
Why do you attribute being left behind to the EU though rather than our own governments? Btw I believe the EU has contributed significantly to transport and infrastructure in Manchester including the national football museum. The north west has attracted £1.4bn in EU funding.

I think it's apt to point out that Cromwell was the reaction to a monarch acting against the will of parliament not the cause.

The English Civil War was the reaction to a monarch acting against the will of Parliament.

Cromwellian rule was the response to the indecisive nature of Parliament dealing with said monarch.

Less a cynical device more a welcome abbreviation of the sustained gross abuse of democracy perpetrated by the HoP remainer majority

You mean the Parliament elected by the people in 2017? Didn’t realise the votes in a General Election counted for less than the votes of 140,000 Tory Party members. Democracy yay.

Sassy...

‘German news radio: "There is a universal principle that in democratic states Parliament controls the government. Except if the prime minister can just send Parliament on holiday in the most crucial of times."’

Just imagine, we have to leave the EU by a certain date or we remain and a proposal comes across to suspend Parliament to make sure we remain.

What do we do? More importantly, what will MP's do?
What the past 24 hours have shown - is the double standards that a good number of Remainers are steeped in

When the speaker was binning centuries of tradition in his attempts to support the Remain machinations in Parliament, strangely I cannot recall this level of angst

Your twisting my post to suit yours. I can absolutely make jokes the predications made, particularly the ones made before the referendum. I can also make jokes about remainers - it’s all they have done for the last two years. Mock people, call them stupid, thick, racist ......

I think it’s past the point of getting a deal. There will not be a deal with the backstop - something the eu just won’t budge on. For me that doesn’t make any sense as with no deal there could be a border. We don’t want that, but the eu don’t want compromise
Its an increasing MO - and you would hope that it is done deliberately as the other option is.....

He is not alone
