Very disappointing this but I'm still looking forward to tomorrow and hoping for good weather. I've been very lucky with the days I've attended Ashes matches over the years - was there in 2013 on the day Pietersen scored his last test century at OT, and again 2 days later when we retained the Ashes, at Chester-Le-Street on the day when we won the series the following test, and at Trent Bridge on the day we won the series in 2015 so it's probably time I was present when we're up against it. Hopefully we turn in a decent backs-to-the-wall batting performance tomorrow
Looks like the morning session will be rained off but after that sunshine for the rest of the test.

I wouldn't go betting on that now. They could (probably will) well be over 450 tonight. Bat for an hour in the morning, 500+ lead. Skittle us out for 150-175. Make us follow on. If we bat well, we might get a lead of 150 by the time lunch on saturday comes around. Could well be over by stumps (weather permitting) on saturday evening.

Cheers for that.
Nice and positive ha

Yeah, the forecast hasn't changed much in the last day or so. Could still get 60-odd overs in tomorrow

Bookies currently have the draw and Australia both at Evens. Not sure I agree with that to be honest
I've been looking at this for about an hour, Aussies have England in late on and take a couple of wickets that evens will then be 4/9.

last thing england need is to bat tonight
They have to prevent the Aussies getting a score that England can't reach in two innings. 475-500 here makes an innings win the favourite for me, as the final 2.5 days looks decent weather. If England avoid the follow-on they've got a chance of saving the game. BIG 'if' mind.

Disagree. We’re better than 10 of them.

Without Smith they’re a mediocre side but the likes of Cummins, Lyon and Hazelwood are high quality cricketers.

I fear some of our team are burnt out following the incredible WC win. Whilst it’s great to finally win the World Cup, I would have taken the Ashes if given the choice.

I hate the Australian cricket team almost as much as Liverpool, United and Bayern.

Plus it doesn’t help having to get Smith out three times to get him out. That early LBW shout was very unlucky. Had the umpire said out we’d have skittled them for 220.

Nah I simply mean take Smith out of their team and we are 3/0 up.

But the sub looks very good you’re right.
Tough one though as they did take Smith out for a game and absolutely battered us for the most part, until Stokes decided to single handedly win the game. Both sides are a bit shit tbh, only really half a proper team each

Tbf you could of said we were lucky to win the last test when they didn't have Smith, Lyon missed the easiest stumping ever and how the umpire never give that plumb lbw I'll never know, they should of wrapped the ashes up right there.

Even taking Smith out of their side I'm not sure I'd agree with you saying we'd be 3-0 up.
