The Labour Party

It doesn't, but that's not the point.

I can see it now, the playing fields of Eton....

Can someone tell that twat city play in white shorts and navy blue socks. They will be putting bloody purple on it if we don’t clamp down now.

This is actually a myth btw. I've posted the evidence on the forum before; in almost every study ever conducted on the issue, the "quality" of school that you go to has almost no effect at all on your life chances.

Sending kids from the ghetto to a private school and sending rich kids to an underfunded public high school produced no differentiation from the norm of academic achievement. Much more important is the social class that you come from. Rich kids will be schooled well no matter where they go and poor kids will always be fucked.

Social mobility is about social class differences rather than educational standards. Creating a larger middle class, for example, seems to be the best way to do that and the best way to achieve a large middle class is to invest in underfunded public services in working class areas. Addiction, adult care services, Children and Young People's Services, etc.

Essentially, if your Mum is a crackhead and your Dad is a drunk then it doesn't matter if you go Manchester Grammar or Moston Brook, you're pretty much going to have a shit life.

all those studies are based on the as is now - the Old Boy Network in action - what school and uni did you attend etc etc? - this whole move is about improving social mobility - of course very rich people can pay to have their kids well schooled - may reasonably well off kids are well schooled by virtue of extra schooling paid for by modestly well off parents but at the end of the day if the status quo remains unchallenged then kids that begin with an advantage maintain that throughout their lives. The big question is why does a parent who's kid is in a school that is judged failing pay taxes that effectively allow JRM's kids attend a fee paying school that is subsidised by those very taxes? He has no say in either but somehow he and his offspring get the shitty end of the stick.

So its politics of envy, class war waged?

At least call it for what it is and stand by it rather than spout some shite about how the poor will benefit.

Watson is to Corbyn as Prescott was to Blair.

And New Labour isn't dead. You can tell that by all the New Labour MPs and supporters still actually in the Labour Party.

And I'm not sure calling life long Labour voters "lost souls you ain't coming back" is really the best strategy for an election.

That's a shame, because it's the only one we have.

The studies cross many different nations rather than just the UK and all seem to support the same conclusion. The idea that school choice is an important driver of success of the pupil in later life just doesn't seem to be a reality. It's common sense sure, but common sense is often wrong in these types of things.

That's a shame, because it's the only one we have.

I'm going to go full Corbyn4lyf near the election time because as I've said all along, I'd like to see Labour elected, but bloody hell you lot make it difficult some times.

The days of trying to please all of the people all of the time, went the way of things can only get better.

Bertrand Russell once said that "envy is the basis of democracy" and I feel like he's got a point in there somewhere

Dont think its central governments right to dictate to parents how they should spend their money or how to educate their children.

This is born out of pure envy and a need to indulge in class warfare and it has fuck all benefit for those they pretend it will have.

Its shit policy, popular with the membership and momentum but a vote winner come the GE?

Not a chance.

Not every constituency is Wallasey mate.

Another joke policy introduced today.

Getting more let’s pinch off the rich every day.

Full on communism.

It’s against the law anyway.

European Commission of Human Rights decision in Ingrid Jordebo Foundation of Christian Schools Ingrid Jordebo v Sweden (1987) 51 DR 125 the State may not use its regulatory power to make it impossible to establish private schools.
