Should we swap Fernandinho and Rodri?

I would prefer City to play specialist defenders in there, although I thought we were OK vs Everton.

Yerry Mina will cause any team problems at set-pieces. The trick is not conceding them in the first place.

And having Ederson in goal.

Something I've been thinking about since Fern came in because I think with Rodris height and ability on the ball he might be better suited to it.

Rodri is doing a brilliant job but part of me thinks he'd bring a bit of a calming influence at the back that we're missing at the moment (Laporte-esq). Then Fern can do what he has been doing for 6 years.

Fixing the defence:
- Obviously goes without saying that we need an actual left back at left back.
- Then maybe Garcia or Harwood-Bellis alongside Rodri.
No, Dinho is the better defender and Rodrigo moves the ball faster.

The lack of height in our defence (and team) particularly at set pieces is a cause for concern, however it's very early days in the Fernandinho and Otamendi partnership. Even top class defenders take time to build an understanding so I'm hoping it will become more assured in the coming weeks, at least till Stones is back.

Nothing wrong with the defence. One bad game at Norwich which the biased media gleefully seize upon as proof that we’re on the slide and all the flappers start panicking and wanting to replace title winning first class central defenders with kids. 1 goal conceded in 4 subsequent games shows everything’s fine

And how many games does Zin need to have played and won at left back in probably the best English side ever in the best quality title race ever to qualify as a left back ffs
Really? Have you seen the stats? Most shots on target against us in two or three seasons. Eddy made 3 or 4 excellent saves. Hopefully Stones will be back by the Liverpool game. That defence against the dippers' front three is not a comforting thought.

Leave Rodri exactly where he is.

He has had a magnificent start to his career with us, an outstanding, quality footballer.

PS Loved the way he celebrated that 3rd goal yesterday, he is already one of us!

Guardiola has alluded to Rodri potentially playing as a centre half so it’s certainly a possibility. He’d give us greater presence and aerial ability, but I worry about about his lack of pace. We’d be pretty susceptible to balls in behind the centre halves with him and Otamendi at the back.

Maybe later but the lad is settling into a new league - which is considerably quicker than anything he’s been used to. Needs at least a dozen league games under his belt in his favoured position before we start messing him about. I rate Rodri and personally I’d leave him where he is and I’d look at Fern as more than a stop gap at CB.

solve that by not picking Otamendi.

He’s there to make saves. Even if you buy into all this xg theory you’re going off such a small sample size of games that any stats are meaningless
