“Sorry guys, practice is off. Says he’s now going to ask for one!”
RTE reporting he will ask for an extension.

He's up to something I think.
I don't know what, but my gut says he'll do something to ensure that his written request will be rejected by at least one country.

The court document today confirms 2 things: that he will send the letter requesting an extension and that he wont frustrate the intention of the letter. Difficult to see how he gets round this, any attempt to wriggle out and he will be in court.

I did read your posts on this last night and the Guardian article but surely abusing the cross-community mechanisms discussed would be ruled out of the process?
As I answered after your post George and also last night. With an extension, what was proposed could be seen as a starting point of a genuine negotiation.
As it is there are too many unknowns and lack of fine detail, that really needs to be nailed down, before any credible deal respecting consensus as defined in the GFA would get backing here or judging from the response up North from anyone else other than the DUP.

Leaving the GFA aside, there seemed to be pretty unanimous belief that the content other than that was actually unworkable.
There's a lot of work that would need to be done, but it certainly had some interesting compromises in it.
The trouble I see is that without the effective shredding of the GFA it would not get DUP support.

This goes out to all, leave and remain alike.
Judging by the reactions to Johnson from almost all on here and the belief that he is still disingenuous regarding his extension letter intentions.
If you all think he is untrustworthy, then why in God's name should NI/Ireland/EU take anything on the never never from him.

There is a complete lack of goodwill and any agreement with him has to be nailed down, legally binding, totally unambiguous.
These things take time (see GFA for details)

Normally I'd agree with you but these aren't normal times, perhaps I could be overthinking it but I'm not inclined to believe him after this statement in court anymore than what I believe he says in parliament.

Your right to think that way:-

SNP MP Joanna Cherry QC, one of the lawyers leading the case in Scotland, has called for “a formal binding undertaking” to ensure the prime minister abides by the commitments made in the court documents.

I'm not sure he needs to be up to something, this is still playing into his hands for now. He'll campaign even harder against the elite and fighting for the people.

Surely there has to be a GE now.

The other thought I had - absolutely ridiculous though it may sound - is, does the legislation actually obliged us to stay in even if the EU grant an extension?

What I am suggesting (I know it sounds like an implausible oversight) is perhaps Johnson asks for an extension, the EU grant it and Johnson then says "thanks but we're off anyway".

Are you even remotely surprised? He’s a lying fucking ****.
No, not even in the slightest. Perfect example was the other day, the deal he described to the tory conference wasn't the same deal he's given to europe, but he's going on the (probably correct) assumption that enough people will believe his bullshit, he'll win the next election, and he'll get away with this shit. Again.
