Call me a hypocrite but at least Boris has the personality to convince people and "take them with him" (to coin a phrase from Corbyn yesterday) and he has made clear progress, to the surprise of many in the house. TM had zero charisma so she stood zero chance of convincing anybody to go with her...

I don't trust any of them but take Swinson, all I hear from her lips is noise... I can't help but think of Verucca Salt from Willy Wonka when she speaks... I'm just waiting for her to start to Skweam and Skweam if she doesn't get her own way.... she won't

I agree with other posters, underneath the facade, they are all capable individuals who are generally confident speakers and can hold an audience but in the case of Boris, he has the ability or charm to convince (fool maybe) dissenters that he may actually be the answer... I don't see any other current opposition leader I can say that about

Strange - I have loads of mates in London (I've lived down south for 37 years, including living in London myself) and I can't think of anyone who didn't rate him. That always struck me as odd, since at the time I was thinking he's an absolute tosser and was always amazed that he seemed so popular. You and I must mix in different circles I guess.

It's really staggering how powerful and very very important it is to be able to crack a smile.

When you think of leaders who people typically regard as "charismatic", you think of Bill Clinton, Tony Blair and yes even Boris. And they all have that in common - being able to grin, laugh, crack a joke - even when under extreme pressure in an interview. To answer serious questions seriously and when on the back foot, crack a joke, a deflection, whatever.

And then by contrast you look at May, Brown, Corbyn, the fat Scots twat whose name escapes me. None of them could crack an egg, let alone a smile. Is it any wonder so many people didn't/don't like them.

I see it completely different.

Leaving with a deal does close it to some degree and Boris will most certainly win a majority in the process.

If he gets his deal through he may well win the forthcoming election. However when all the apocalyptic remainer predictions start to happen then he and the Tories will be hoofed out.

However given that even the Labour mps who sympathise with him will know that by backing him come the ultimate point of no return will all but win him an election may yet kill his hopes. He wont be getting any backing from the Lib Dems, SNP, or the Welsh and certainly not the DUP.

Honestly anyone who lives here and says they rate/don't rate the Mayor, I'd strongly suspect is coming from a place of predetermined opinion, unless they all happen to work directly for/with the Mayor's office. Other than implementing the Bike scheme, which was a very visible (and great) idea, I'd struggle to think of where the Mayor directly impacts my day to day life enough for me to say "Yeah, he's doing a great job" or "Nah, he's shit". Have I noticed a difference in life under Boris vs now under Kahn? Not a jot. Johnson gave us the bikes and Kahn gave us the ULEZ. Moving in the right direction but like much of politics outside of direct taxation, it's pretty hard to pin your finger on big individual things that drastically improve your life/make it worse.

I don't live in London and haven't for many years now, but what about knife crime and crime in general? And housing, transport etc? I am not knowledgable on these subjects, but my (albeit layman's) impression is that he did quite well at these things?

Unless you're in a gang, I just don't understand why or how the average member of the public frets about knife crime. Maybe just letting the news work them into a frenzy? Where I work isn't the nicest part of London, where I live is nicer, but there's still an estate not a million miles from my flat (pretty much the case wherever you are in London as you know). Lived in 4 different places now too, can't say I've ever seen anything I wouldn't expect to see anywhere else. Had my bike nicked the other day, but I had my bike nicked when I used to live in Sale too, so I'm not putting too much stock in it.

Housing? Unless your parents have left you £50k, or you're on the dole, or you fancy living so far out of London you're not in London, you're renting, and yes, it's shit. But it was shit under Johnson and it's still shit under Kahn. I'm honestly not sure what kind of teeth the Mayor has for any meaningful reform either.

Transport has been good under both Mayors. It's the main thing I miss going elsewhere in the country as I'm so used to having a plethora of decent options. Tube is still stuffy and crowded, buses still run well and are cheap. Kahn did introduce a cheaper 'hopper' fare, but it doesn't really apply to me/doesn't save me so much money when it does that I notice.

The main things you'll notice a difference in IMO is who runs your council. They can have a big day to day impact if they're good, more if they're shit.

Blimey I've just seen the video of her calling for an in/out referendum and criticising the EU for being undemocratic. She obviously wanted to leave. Who to trust ?

Thanks for this. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself. Had actually begun to thought she at least was clear in what she believed in...….silly me !
