He conveniently forgets they play that many games because his club accepted an invitation to play in a pointless cup in the middle east, for an association which has no bearing on the competitions they play in normally. He also talks about it being good they are looking at the fixtures now, Liverpool knew the likely hood of a fixture clash in August.

Genuine question, could they have opted not to play the world club cup or whatever it is and if we were in the same position would we want the club to take part.

They should be able to participate in that competition without too many obstacles. Suggesting they play Friday, Monday, then fly out Tuesday to Qatar and play Wednesday is ridiculous. Unfortunately there isn't much leeway in England due to the 2 domestic cup competitions, so whatever happens, they will have some pretty dire scheduling.

The way I look at it is, they knew about this before the season started, its hasn't just been sprung on them, so they should just have f**ked the Carabao Cup off this season, they didn't because its a chance for their youngsters to gain some experience, so for me its tough luck and they should be fined if they don't play it, just like anyone else would be.
