With Johnson, in truth, you have no idea what you are voting for. He will change direction in a heartbeat. He also seems to be somewhat reticent to be bound by any actual manifesto. My feeling is he will sell the country down the river without a backwards glance.

Frankly given a choice I'd plump for Corbyn. At least we know what he's going to try to do. I say try, because reality will likely intervene and put a stop to his more outlandish fantasies.

which is your choice, go for it .

It's not because Labour are not antisemitic.
Next.
So all those Jewish members who have made complaints, raised concerns and stated they no longer feel welcome as members of the party are just...lying?

And who is going to invest in the next gen fibre (or whatever comes next) when there's zero money in it?
FFS - nobody

I need to break a rule and skip a good few pages - there is so much bollocks being posted on here in desperation to suggest that this Labour initiative is anything more than utterly ill-thought through bollocks

Fine.
Ur alwight mate.
Thousands aren't
I gave you an example of how BT are committed to providing a good broadband service.

My service and speeds have improved after waiting for them to upgrade the lines. You've not much hope of proving they aren't providing a good service when they have shown they are committed to doing so.

Yeah.
Some may be
Others may not, but their complaints are mostly related to a few administrative or bureaucratic cock ups in dealing with complaints.
Wow.

And those same "excuses" cannot possibly be applied to any other party? Nah, it's just better to label the whole lot as "racist".

Double standards much?

What market would there be for private ISP's for paying customers when the government is promising full speed access for free?

Only asking because you're an expert.

Thanks.
Ohhhh

Looking forward to the answer to this - bound to be insighful

They're not. They would be providing the equivalent of the M6 Toll but just a 1100cc Austin Allegro to drive on it. You'd pay the ISPs for the decent cars.
What kind of expert answer is that????

The question was:

"What market would there be for private ISP's for paying customers when the government is promising full speed access for free?"

Now - having worked with the SG for a lot of years as they try to convince the Telecoms market that it is worth investing and BT will not always win - I would have some views on what this would do to commerical leverage and competition for decades - and the views of industry leaders on investing after Labour had enacted this idiotic policy.

But I am awaiting your insights with bated breath - hopefully this time answering the question that was put to you.

i'm like 500 posts behind, is everyone still talking about broadband, can i just skip it all? if it is all 'communists this, marxists that, want to privatise the internet' on repeat i'll save myself the hassle. More importantly, did GAM's BT engineer ever turn up?
Not sure about GAM’s, but mine didn’t; rescheduled for tomorrow. Will update throughout the day.

Fair point. It could be used as a stick for them to "get on with it".

Of course BT don't in fact have a monopoly and they also have a regulator to keep on top of things (though fat lose of use those are). But Virgin Media have over the last month been seeking my approval to lay cable down my drive to reach my house and the neighbours (we share a drive). Whether they will still do so, I am not sure now.

We had Virgin till we moved to an area with no cable. BT Openreach were short of lines - we had to wait for someone to give up their line before we got ours - and we could only have BT as ISP for fast broadband. We had to wait till the contract was up to move to PlusNet. That was Openreach using their monopoly to exclude even a subsidiary!

Had this discussion 8 hours ago. If you don’t understand analogies it’s not my problem.
Stop being so needy.

It depends if you believe in a private companies (in this case BT) ability to carry out the desire of the government to see fibre broadband nationwide or that they can't and it needs nationalising...…..
That's it - my head has exploded and I need to not read anymore of this shit

Just please try and think this through.....

What the fuck do you mean with

"It depends if you believe in a private companies (in this case BT) ability to carry out the desire of the government to see fibre broadband nationwide....."?

BT/Openreach have been rolling out fibre across the UK for years as part of the EU/UK funding as part of contractual commitments - who else is going to do it if the government decide that Openreach are not up to it?

Also, they, Openreach, are so fully committed they have had to develop close relationships with sub-contractors from other EU countries. the demand for the services of such countries across Europe is so heavy that it is necessary to provide a long-term work programme to keep them committed

Openreach and their sub-contractors currently deliver against contracted service levels and delivery times - just how the fuck would your suggestion work - why would some government insourced company do better?

Why the fuck would nationalising Openreach lead to 'improvements'?

So many of the key staff could up and leave for better paid jobs in other countries

Just fucking daft this shit

I'm with BT.

Broadband speeds have been over 60mbps for months since they did work on it, and i'm paying for 50mbps. That shows a commitment to provide a quality service in my book.

60mbps you peasant, virgin offered that years ago, open reach isn't fit for purpose. Old copper network taking years to upgrade, the country is lucky liberty global bought Virgin Media and invested millions in upgrading and expanding the cable network.
