Notts County have agreed to sign young Manchester City midfielder Will Patching when his contract expires on 1 July.

The 19-year-old, who first joined City at Under 6 level, has signed a two-year deal at Meadow Lane.

I don't think anyone was really banging on the door for Patching to get a go to be fair. Not quite the same situation for him as some others who have the talent AND the drive.

Football is not a meritocracy where the best end up at the top no matter what.

Getting a chance at the right time or becoming disenchanted because you dont, or getting sent on a bad loan can permanently change someone's career trajectory.
