Pep's rebuilding job. Pep's City Mk II

I think there's a lot of flappers on here. Stones is good enough - he was good enough last season and the season before. He's had rotten luck with injuries and he needs a commanding CB next to him to blossom, which he currently doesn't have. Laporte isn't gone forever.
Someone said Mahrez isn't the player we need him to be - for real? Mahrez is class! more than justified his place in this team on a number of occasions, someone mentioned the same about Jesus - again, class player that deserves to be here.

I think we need:

one CB to replace Vinny and the possibly outgoing (and ageing) Nico, then one of either THB or Garcia promoted.
a left back to support Zinchenko, as Mendy has proven nothing and Angelino, regrettably, doesn't look like a champion
a winger to replace Sane IF he leaves
a striker to prepare for Sergio leaving.

thats it! Foden will naturally replace David, and he'll get more games as the season progresses. People seem to think he needs to be on the pitch with Silva to learn from him and prepare, this isn't true.

so in summary I'd suggest two signings for now, a CB & a LB, and then a winger and a striker in the summer or next.

I miss the 100 point days when we scored the same goal at least 70 times in one season. Ball from David Silva or KDB between their wingback and centerback to one of the winger, pass across the goal for a easy tap in. It's not harder than that, of course we need a new left footed pace merchant now that Sané is gone. Maybe Bailey or Neres, of course they're not good enough now but Sané wasn't when he came either. And then we need a strong striker to replace Aguero, a better CB, and a midfielder in the mold of Bernardo but that plays LW and CAM. Then we're set for years.

Shopping list:
Neres
Lautaro Martinez/Haaland
Koulibaly/Skriniar
Szoboszlai/Olmo.

Potential future squad:

All the posts about building around Laporte. What if he returns in the same condition as Mendy?

Just a thought :-(

Mendy hasn't looked like he can play football from the first moment he stepped on the pitch. Laporte has been brilliant from day one

I agree too.

Last season's defence is still in place. It's just been on the injury table (I feel Mendy's career is over, but he has not been part of our side for 2 seasons).

Foden has different attributes to Silva but he is very close to coming through now. It's a big step to drop Silva and play Foden. I think the time has come to start Foden and use Silva in lesser games and from the bench but Pep is close to the squad, we are not. Rodri needs time to adapt and it would help him a lot if he was part of a settled side.

I don't think there is much rebuilding to do providing Foden and Rodri make it. We could possibly buy a specialist left back given Mendy's problem and that ZInchenko is really a left footed midfielder.

financially speaking I reckon we could get what we need and have cash left over by selling Leroy and Sterling. If RM are stupid enough to offer us north of £150 mill for the latter we should snap their hands off.
