Harsh but my sentiments too I'm afraid. Once they go to a rival they are basically against us. No love for Arsenal so them staying poor is all good for me.

To be fair, its because an Arsenal is a thing in its own right (i.e where armaments & ammunition are stored). Arsenal Football Club started as the club of "The Woolwich Arsenal" so if you're a local its not unreasonable to refer to it as "The Arsenal"

They started as ‘Dial Square’..

cos it's a tangible thing, a munitions arsenal, around which the club the founded.

Because it used to be The Woolwich Arsenal - i.e. the place in Woolwich that the army used for making munitions. Hence the Gunners.

I know what an Arsenal is lads and why they’re nickname is the Gunners ffs...
They were never actually named The Woolwich Arsenal, just Woolwich Arsenal. They changed their name to The Arsenal, but then changed to just Arsenal over 100 years ago.
