Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

My source was not a club employee but I trust him and if he quite openly commented it was either from within the club (he mentioned hearing the same story from multiple sources) and true or it's reverse psychology to raise the ante and make a Pep extension massive news... I hope it's the latter but fear the former

If the information you’ve received is true, and I hope it’s not, let’s just hope that the club have a pre-contract agreement with Pochetinno.

Hope you are right re upping the ante but if this is coming from multiple sources it’ll be on the back pages anytime soon and used to massively undermine both Pep and the club.

Nothing personal mate, and thanks for sharing, but your post reads a little bit like a "covered all the bases so I can't be called out on it either way" here. If he stays "I said it could be a smokescreen" if he goes "I told you in January" etc.

Fwiw if he won't extend he has to go at the end of the season or we can write next year off as the speculation will hamper efforts in the transfer windows.
If he stays, that's fine too, but he has to extend if he wants to stay.

It's a shit-sandwich that's for sure... Just when I thought things couldn't get any more challenging for us...

Need to finish the season. Try to win some silverware and then resolve this properly. Probably best that Pep renews for 3 or goes. Don’t think indecision is good for the club.

I believe that City and Pep will review in the Summer. I feel it's quite likely he will extend his deal. Arteta leaving is a big pointer to that because had Pep been intent on leaving in 12 months, I think he'd have intimated that to Arteta.

I want Pep to stay so it's with a heavy heart that I said anything at all.. I added the double bluff bit because I want it to be the case, that the rumour is BS but it's from somebody I see as a person who is totally loyal to the cause... a dyed in the wool blue

I hope you are right Marvin, I asked the guy yesterday why didn't Arteta stay then and go for the job if Pep is going.. because Poch is already on-board was the reply

If Pep was staying or not I don't think Txiki would have handed it over to Arteta. A step far too soon for him.

The talk of poch could well be true, did someone not report we have paid him a fee to keep him from taking a job at least till the summer?

If Pep wins the CL I think he will leave.

That would make this less of a bitter pill for me... but we agreed yesterday that it's a long shot.. the "source" didn't see us getting past RM

Who knows what Pep will ultimately decide. I don't know your source... but, really...? Do you honestly think that Pep has confided to anyone at all whether or not he'll stay beyond this year? I rather suspect that Pep himself hasn't made up his mind.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me if he moves on - as his pattern has been to stay with a club for 3 or 4 years and then leave.
This current cycle is nearly over. Silva and Kun are leaving/close to leaving. We have a great young core but need 3 or 4 big signings. If Pep is only commited to the end of next season it might be best to give Poch control prior to making those signings. We need long term commitment.

We don’t have to just beat RM - we have to beat RM who will have UEFA and their version of VAR in their back pocket. We can do it but we’ll need to be 3 or 4 goals better to win.

Is a one year extension to Pep's contract the only offering? If so, then, yeah, maybe...

My strong preference is that Pep agrees to a long term contract - all pieces are in place - huge financial support, management totally behind him... no excessive pressure to win every game/cup.

We'll see though... I think it's 50-50 as to whether Pep leaves.

Pep won't stay in a side where the players aren't 100% committed to his way - after 3 years of intense Pep, maybe that commitment has begun to wane.

And maybe it's just burnout - Pep demands 110% of all his players... and, personally, gives 110% plus as a manager. After 3 years of such drive from Pep... maybe he needs a break... I've never heard of giving a manager a 1 year or more hiatus - but if we want to keep Pep, maybe that's what we need to do.

I am surprised to hear so much noise about Pep supposedly leaving early.
He has repeatedly said he would see out his contract ie stay until the end of next season and he does seem to be a man of his word.
The way he celebrated the second goal yesterday suggests he still has massive passion for this club and I sincerely hope he stays on.
The Basque like nothing more than a fight and he most certainly has one on his hands he is likely to win (I am not referring to the PL obviously...)
Let’s pray he stays longer and we can keep enjoying this magnificent football.

The comment I heard yesterday was a real bolt from the blue for me and was un-solicited... that's why it was so worrying

Seeing out his contract, until the end of next season is the worst option for City.
It may allow him to say 'I am a man of my word' but that means fuck all form our point of view.

Either he commits, like Klopp has, or he goes at the end of the season.
His choice, but he needs to decide soon.
