January defenders

Tactics more than anything, we isolated him with KDB and Mahrez ro mark.
Agreed, he’s been one of the top two left backs in the League for two seasons, bit harsh to write him off on the basis of one poor game against a rampant Mahrez and De Bruyne. Those two would make any left back look silly on their day.

Because he is lazy. I sit next to the home dugout and watch the subs warm-up before each match. Cancelo can't be arsed. All the other players get involved with what the trainer is doing he doesn't put half the effort in.
This should be something our scouting team should have picked up on.

Again, with the narrative. It was mostly just Mahrez. And he made him look poor. Chillwell is an average defender. Has always been.

Top 2 LBs in the league? I can't tell. Nothing about him or his game stands out.

If we arent planning on buying someone this window, what are peoples thoughts on bringing tosin adarabioyo back? Hes quicker than nico and just as good on the ball. He adds extra height and he has a point to prove. Hes having a decent loan spell and loves the club.

It wasn't just Mahrez at all KDB was pulling him in to give Mahrez room. He’s better than average .

Nope. Watch again. He was being done one v one. At least on 4 separate occasions. And after that he started backing off and started doing that retreat thing Stones used to do back in the day.

He isn't a good Defender. That has never been in question. I don't know if he is better than average. I know his defending isn't.

Compared Perreira at RB for Leicester. It's like comparing night and day.

Theo only thing I see Chiwell do well is overlap and support the attack. His technique isn't particularly great, nor is his vision, his positiioning, tackling or crossing. He attacks well, and has a decent left shot.

Oh wait, he is English. That's his other great quality he has.

How folks rate him as the 2nd best LB in the league baffles me. Granted I can't name anyone particularly better, but that might just be because outs the Roberson most LBs in the league aren't special.

Just so I'm not being biased. Can you tell me the best game you've ever seen him play?

I'm sure I can find it and watch. I just haven't seen him play a cracking game... Like ever! I'll be happy to be Wrong.

need at least 4 defenders over the next few transfer windows. Ota,Stones and of course Mendy are proving to be not good enough. Walker will need replacing too before long.

Tosin is playing regularly and improving by the week but is still years away from his peak, leave him where he is and if he ever gets to our standard buy him, a club trained player? it could happen he is going about it in the right way, same with Frimpong

50m for Upamecano in january according to reports. Get this man on the plane

I'd rather see us give Garcia a go. Trust the lad, he has been excellent, if he played for another team abroad, many would be saying 'pay what it takes to get him here'. He just needs the games, the quality is there, the experience will come.

I'd say the same over other expensive defenders we've been linked with.

wheres that being reported please mate? absolute star in the making and would love him here at city.
Quite bad sources to be fair like dailystar, express and so on. They also say that we're in for him. But 50m sounds reasonable as his contract expires next summer and they're also quite stacked at CB with Konate, Orban, Mukiele. Konate and Orban have been injured but are back now. If they've already identified a replacement I think we can get him without breaking the bank.

I think the thought of playing with his fellow frenchmen Laporte and Mendy in defence could be enough to persuade him. Also playing for the best coach in the world and one of the best clubs of course.

That's all true but I can't help wonder if Garcia is tall enough to be truly great in our league. I know Cannavaro and Puyol were world class on the continent but English football still seems to be land of the giants in terms of opposition strikers. Can he be physically imposing enough at set pieces, etc?

50m, reasonable you say?

For a 20 year old that hasnt played for country or a top club, with just over a year left on contract. That seems the state of the market unfortunatly.

Not even Laporte get's a sniff under Dechamps and he's a top 2 CB in the world. Dechamps is a stubborn donkey who refuses to let go of mediocre players like Giroud, just to keep the "morale". He doesn't care about player qualities so not playing for France is not something to be mad about.

Sure. That's fair.

My point still stands though, we now accept that 50m is 'reasonable', in today's market. It was a comment on the state of football rather than a specific arguement over a particular player.
