The Portuguese league is hit and miss(at best) when it comes to finding players for the Premier League - Anderson, Mangala, Fernando, Javi Garcia etc. All failed to do anything of note

But let’s just say this guy is good. It won’t make a blind bit of difference because Solskjær isn’t a good coach. The longer Fernandes/Solskjær is there the worst he will get

I love your optimism. They've got a good one I'm afraid. The manager will replaced in the summer I reckon.

Apologies if this has been already posted but the guardian on Woodward made me laugh till they said their glory days will be back..........fewcenturies I hope

Loved this description of the Glazers at the end of this excerpt!

The problem is located in more concrete things. It rests in the cold hard present: shoddy recruitment, an absence of forensic expertise at every level and an ownership that has squatted on the club like a vampiric homunculus.

Same goes for you :) ONE good player wont transform there team! Wasnt pogba going to transform them? Maguire going to solve there entire defence. I'm not slightly worried about this sighning. They need a complete overhaul of there squad.

This is true, but you should be aware that the reverse is true as well....when they get a good coach, a lot of those poor signings will start to look like great players. Just look at Lukaku this season, he's absolutely brilliant playing for Conte and it's hard to believe it's the same guy who couldn't trap a bag of cement last season.

Solksjaer will never take them anywhere, but with Maguire, Wan-Bissaka now Bruno Fernandes if he comes, he is putting together some pieces that a good manager will be able to turn into a good side.

For all his faults (and I've criticised him a lot in this thread from the day he took over) I think he's been good for Rasford as well, he seems to be maturing into a real striker instead of the kid who wasn't a winger or a striker and only scored 6 goals a season.

So while he's a shit manager, he's probably going to leave them with half a team for Pochettino or whoever to make into challengers, which is a lot more than his predecessor managed.

Sorry, but that is bollocks.

You are putting it all on the manager and their problems run much fucking deeper than that.

Looks like Bruno Fernandes is done and waitng to be announced. Think they've got a good player that they badly need. Chelsea will start looking over their shoulder. Roman doesn't seem too interested in squad investment anymore. Think we all knew that the midfield is their weakest area, so will be a tougher battle. Wonder if they are panicking at getting hammered by Liverpool next week.
Waste of time getting a player like fernandes, putting him in a team like utd is like buying a petrol car and filling it with diesel.
I can only imagine they're paying him 400k a month and he's going to his boyhood club .

Exactly. Their problem is deep. Chopping and changing managers whilst maintaining the status quo for them won't change much at all.

Is the Paper Boy any good as a manager? Who knows exactly, but I'm inclined to think he's mediocre. It does seem that he has restraints on his power regarding football related decisions, reserved instead for Eddie Two Planks and their leeching owners, who are utterly clueless. I doubt any manager alone can get them out of this unless they make bigger changes.

That's not what I said at all.

I didn't say the manager was their only problem.

I didnt say getting rid of him would solve everything for them.

So I dont know how you managed to come away thinking that.

A good manager with half decent players would get results. That’s what he’s trying to say. The problems they have deeper than that were there when Fergie was there. Him being a good manager with a decent team meant them problems behind the scenes didn’t matter.

Even with a very good team Ole won’t know his arse from his elbow as he is utterly clueless as a football manager. What the poster you quoted was trying to say (I believe) is that with a couple of signings of this standard, with a much better manager installed could be the helping hand they need to compete more again.

Their problem will be first of all convincing the good players to go. The way most have declined there would be enough to put anybody off.

Paperboy is the 4th manager since gpc decided he couldnt hack it anymore. They have consistently thrown money at the situation and are no nearer to a title challenge.
Fernandes could be a good player as I know very little about him but will he fit into a kick & rush counter attacking team. Will he be willing to do the defensive tracking back ( that KDB didnt do in the 1st season under Pep) or will he be like Pogba who when he actually wants to play is allowed to do what he wants.

Fernandes aside they’re being linked with Diop at WHU and Jiminez at WHW. Wow how the mighty have fallen, was a time they showed interest and nearly any player in the world would’ve signed. They’re gone.

Teetering on the precipice.

Two pushes required: Finishing the job in the League Cup, and more importantly seeing them miss out on CL qualification.

It’s tempting* to sign up for sad cafe just to bump all those ‘we’re signing neymar!’ threads.

Is that even up for debate? Have a look at him on the bench/touchline in ANY game - he looks totally and utterly lost, bewildered and clueless.

Sometimes they get good results, very very occasionally they play a half decent game but none of that is down to his management, just the fact that their players are better than some other teams and will occasionally get it right on the pitch because of that.

That's like us under Hughes
