Liverpool thread 2019/20

I have often said, it seems like to me(as well as hearing of a stat from earlier on the season) that although they are obviously very good, things are going abnormally well at both ends of the pitch for Liverpool this season. In that they are creating less than last season but scoring the ones they do get more often, and conceding more chances per game but teams are bottling it when they do find themselves in front of goal. I can't remember many match winning moments from Alisson this season, if any at all.

Looking at the chance conversion rates so far, it seems the stats do indicate half of it. City are 5% below the league average and Liverpool are 23.5% above it.

Here's what the table would have looked like at the end of last month, had we taken our big chances.

For the defence side(from the same article), I must admit the graph is confusing but it seems to support the idea that teams have been more ruthless against us with the chances they do get.

Although Liverpool fall under the "good defence and wasteful opponents" category, my point was that they were conceding less chances last season, from what I gathered. I'm not sure there are any up to date comparisons compared to last year for that.

City on the other hand, since they straddle two different sections, shall we say "average defence and ruthless opponents"?

To kill a snake you have to cut off it's head.

To kill Liverpool you have to cut off the crosses from their full backs.

What they do is good and effective, but it's so obvious, and it can be stopped.

Regrdless of where their full backs position themselves on the pitch, the final outcome will always be that whipped cross into the box, with Liverpool overloading players inside the box, to either score directly or via a scramble in the box.

You should be a professional Premier League football manager.

Rat poison is far more effective.

Sure they got some lucky wins but imo there is a point not addressed here: they are totally comfortable defending a 1-goal lead, which we can't because of our defence.

When you look at the stats it looks as though they don't have a lot of chances, but I observed them against weaker teams several times this season and at no point were they playing to their full power. In other words, when they are 1 goal up they try to contain opponents and defend their lead rather than pushing forward and wasting energy in the process. But if they need another goal they just crank up a gear and thanks to their athleticism they'll get it quite easily.

Fitness is their great strength. Hooding when necessary and defensive play. We have been like a knife through butter defensive wise. Let's hope Laporte stays fit now.

We are gonna need some rebuilding to get back on terms with them I’m afraid . The best hope is that they have a burn out this season like we have had and also if they lose some important players that could derail them . Trouble with us is that we take one too many passes and try and walk it in which when it works is great but when it doesn’t annoys fuck out of me. Pep is gonna need to adapt next season because if we go into August with no plan b then we will struggle .

They have given up great chances last few games but none have been taken. Son and lo celso missed sitters for spurs. Martial blasted over from the 6 yard line. Doherty and jota tonight. It’s witchcraft i tells ya.

We don't need to adapt,we play our own game, this season, injuries and pigmol are the only difference to us

I don't disagree but at the same time we seem to concede with every chance the opposition get yet against Liverpool they miss sitter after sitter. It's pretty fucking frustrating.
