One of the times I did, perfectly happy to admit it, because it hurt so much I thought it was hanging on by a thread. I was out three months recovering.

This sort of player slagging is just beyond understanding for me. What point is there? What purpose does it serve?

PEP For a few moments I thought it would be a tough game. They’re a team with a lot of courage but it was a bit different after the red card. They still tried to play but the game was over at 3-0. Now we prepare for United…

PEP (on Laporte) We are not going to take risks, a lot of training sessions and 75 minutes against Sheffield United. He could play against United if he’s okay.

PEP The determination was always there and we will fight to win each competition. Next is United and a chance to get to the final and that is our next target.

PEP Always we score goals and have the ability to score. The problem this season has been conceding some goals, but it’s always good to score goals.

Murphy made the point that Newcastle managed 52k yesterday and pointed out the impact of a cheap ticketing policy.

Last year Newcastle got 34k against Watford in round 3 while we got 52k against Rotherham - as other posters have pointed out, lunchtime, no away support and on TV can make a big impact on the numbers. Shame Pep fell into the reporter’s trap though...
