"Disappointing" attendances

HANG ON !! Since when have you started to not only read but believe the MEN ?
Fuck me and some one called me a hypocrite on this very forum tonight. ;)

Since I started reading what you post and believing it. ;-)

I believe Stuart is either related to you or a very close friend of yours?

Just back from our reps meeting and we're all agreed that he was well out of order here. In fact we're going to ask the club if he'll come along to a meeting and explain what he thinks we need to do to fill the stadium. As it happens, we've got a club deputation, including Danny Wilson, coming along to our branch meeting this week so that'll be interesting.
Thanks for picking this up. I really believe that we do not do enough as a club to protect our reputation, and that includes our fans' reputation. We are constantly under attack in the media, mostly unfairly. Everyone at the club has to stick together and the least we should expect from senior leaders like Pep is that they defend our corner. The manager very rarely criticises the players in public and the same should apply to supporters. It would be great if you could get Pep to a meeting. Some of our enemies would love to drive a wedge between our fans and the club management.

This will all see the end of the Pep at our club. Not immediately of course, but eventually. he isnt happy, that much is clear and has been for a long time. He hasnt replaced his coach, he hasnt committed to anything beyond next year and he is saying things that ordinarily the leader of a sports club would say. i think he is fed up. Not a criticism by the way, he has been incredible and they way he works must lead to burn out. They say modern sport is cyclical and it maybe this is all proving it, We are all grateful for what he did, and he enjoyed what he did, but maybe he has become stale. I couldnt be arsed with loaded questions from the British media, that is for sure.

Perhaps people are just fed up of winning all these cups Colin.
I'll never get fed up of winning things and I don't think any City fan of the last few years will either. But that has its price. We used to play 19 PL home games, definitely no European games and maybe a couple of domestic cup games at home at most if we were lucky, before being knocked out for another season. Remember that West Ham QF at the Etihad and the one at Blackburn? The excitement at being one game from a semi-final was incredible.

But now in addition to those 19 home games, we expect at least 5 CL games and a run to the semi-finals in the domestic cups as a minimum. That's nearly 30 games that have to be played, in the same time period, with often a Wembley final, and where the tickets have to be paid for out of the same pocket.

To be fair he has always said he will finish his contract and I am sure he will. His pattern of working through his whole career is intense short periods. He is a genius and like many driven people he is also very intense. I am sure next season will be his last and he will leave a fantastic legacy when he goes. He will make the right decison for himself and his family and I don't think our fans will have anything to do with him leaving.

To sum it all up then.
Even though "City" have more money and success...
Fans wages/budgets haven't kept up with seat prices.
Getting to later stages of more cup competitions makes people pick and choose more.
Even though we are grateful to have constant trips to Wembley for semi's and finals, doesn't magic more money into people's pockets.
Streaming and TV coverage helps the "cannot be arsed" decision.
Pep lives in a bubble.
That cover it?

The tickets were already cheap and people didn't come.

Cheaper tickets wouldn't suddenly produce a load of new supporters.

Building the fan base is a long-term job and what will do it is playing attractive football and winning trophies not virtually giving tickets away for FA Cup ties.
I disagree mate. Whilst you(and I) can afford to turn up whenever you/we choose to, many in Manchester and surrounding areas can't. And cheaper tickets would have enticed a few thousand more through the turnstiles to make the effort of attending a live game over watching on TV. That's my opinion anyway.
