And it can be transmitted during that stage,,,so in effect the data released on affected people could be two weeks out of date and indeed we could already be looking at over 1000 people in this country with the virus but not yet identified

yes, that’s what infectious meant in my post...

No suitable locations darn sarf for the passengers due into Brize to be taken to?

So they’ll bus them up the country to Arrow Park on the Wirral...

Anybody else pissed off about this or only me (dons tin helmet)

all the staff have been booted out of the residential accommodation.
Yes, that’s where they are putting them

in staff accommodation.

Feel like this thing is picking up worrying quick.

God forbid it ends up in a 3rd world country with sub standard medical care.

Doesn’t even need that really.

All medical care, regardless of country, will be almost instantly substandard in the event of a true global pandemic, very well illustrated by the description presented by the Wuhan resident in the video I posted a few pages back.

theres no cure so it dosnt matter where you are
Lot easier to manage the symptoms with proper medical care though. Dehydrated then here's an IV, struggling to breath put them on a ventilator. Although if it keeps growing at the pace it is then those things might not be available further down the line.

I think you are much more likely to survive in a place with excellent medical care, as this is a respiratory infection, and can be treated to an extent, there’s just no means yet of expedient cure or prevention of infection (vaccine).

But that benefit ceases to exist once it reaches pandemic level, as medical services will be overwhelmed, meaning it will all be substandard treatment (if you can get treatment at all).

so to fellow posters, should it become widespread which its looking likely at what point do you change your lifestyle, 2000 infected with 200 dead in the UK or 5000 infected with 400 dead, at what point would you stop going to work and keep the kids in 24/7 with no school ,would you panic buy canned meat and dry food etc

Very difficult to say, as doing so too earlier often creates a destructive ripple effect that can actually make the situation worse.

I would say you are never wrong to have an emergency food ration and general emergency kit on hand, regardless of what is going on in the world, but that’s more to do with my previous experiences with MSF and Oxfam as younger man — you tend to see how quickly things breakdown in even *relatively* isolated crises.

I suppose I would consider taking reasonable measures to quarantine my family when I see government leadership and high profile figures doing so, given that IGOs and governments have a tendency to delay such guidance past when it is really needed to avoid the civil order and economic impacts of mass panic that ensues from it. It has become more difficult, in our instant reporting social media age, to keep those sorts of actions quiet, so it will likely be even easier to determine when that is happening.

But ultimately, the most assured method is to not wait until someone tells you or gives you a hint.

With that in mind...

Give it a week. ;-)

do we have a million ventilators?

Living in London I’d say I’m fucked regardless. Probably just start going to Old Trafford on match day.

A woman on question time has asked the panel if we should leave the expats in Wuhan because they’ve got the plague! And It’s killing everyone! Is there no end to the reach of the daily mail

apparently Wuhan is twinned with Manchester
