Not having that mate they might not care which the result shows that plenty don't but don't know their history? Come on really
I’m telling you, the 18 -25 age group don’t have an interest.
My own son is 17and a half and he wouldn’t know and wouldn’t have an interest to find out.

Who's dictating anything I said I was disappointed nothing more. I'm also disappointed in the yanks and the Brits for Trump Tories and the DUP.

That name shouldn't appear on a ballot paper to be honest,

errr - I read that as you dictating they shouldn't be on a ballot paper........no mention of disappointment.

Not going round in circles but I would be flabbergasted if anyone of voting age is unaware of their past. I'm not having it to any degree whatsoever

I was unaware you could vote for Sinn Fein :)

I look forward to the new bluemoon rule of only commenting on politics in ones own back yard. If this doesn't stick there is a conservative thread somewhere around here you can post on.

Just checked you do quite a bit;-)

They're aware of it, they just don't give a fuck. They've seen their future prosperity fucked by Fianna Fail and all economic recovery channelled by Fine Gael towards their own voters in the most privileged parts of the country. They want change.

I'll try not to challenge the legitimacy of Tory candidates so.

That's what I said they don't give a fuck. It was another poster who said they were unaware. Hard work this.

Even less than the history, they don’t see the present insinuations that they are still controlled by an army council as credible, or of concern to them. They don’t look into things like that.
They see them in government up north and wonder why Michael Martin or Leo Varadkar won’t talk with them.

Personally I think they have a long way to go to throw off that element of their core support but maybe this will be the catalyst.

A strong moral compass seems to have been lost and it's not just an Irish thing.

That was me and your opinion is welcome in here as far as I’m concerned.
I’ve no problem debating what I mean with you.
I’m not expecting everyone to agree with me.

Sinn Fein would just put forward more candidates, Don't think the 2 big parties would risk losing even more seats to Sinn Fein

There is always an alternative like in our own general election but people vote out of self interest. Fuck me Sinn Fein Johnson Trump what times we live in.

Anyway looks like it'll be:

FG 36
FF 37
SF 37
LAB 6
PBP 5
GRE 12
SD 6
AON 1
IND 20

Greens, the smaller left parties and independents hitting the FF seat total hard.

If it’s not in sound bites on their phones, a lot of that generation won’t go beyond that.
Not all. But the basic social issues were top priority to them as it touches their lives.
SF stayed out of the party attacks and perhaps for the first time addressed these issues in the political debate and seemed to offer an alternative solution.

It resonated with more than their core support. Proving their manifesto is doable may be a bigger task.

They didn't grow up with it the way we did, it's history to them in the way that the civil war is to us.

The most galling thing for me following the good Friday agreement was parties and individuals continuing with this new found air of respectability.

Like with most conflicts/troubles at the heart is people who are power grabbers.
