Having to hire the best lawyer in the business does set off a few alarm bells for me. If we’re so sure of our defence, why do we need a clever lawyer to present it?

Fair enough mate, and not to be deliberately argumentative, but hypothetically if you were a multiillionaire and you were (wrongly) accused of a serious crime and believed you had the evidence to prove your innocence would you get a legal aid lawyer to present it to the court or the best QC your money could buy?

I'd go for Rumpole or Kavanagh and sod the expense. My freedom is too important to save a few quid even if the evidence I had was able to be worked with by a cheaper lawyer.
Now imagine the "other side" had already stitched you up on an earlier trumped up charge and I imagine you'd want to take less than zero chances.

That's all city are doing and all power to them.

There's an old saying, innocent people need a solicitor in a courtroom more than anyone else.

I have little knowledge of the law but always felt that if you were in the right then no problem, you win.

It seems, not the case, you need to win by playing games and out manoeuvring your opponent. Why I don’t know.

The main point of my concern is that by appointing a skilled, the best there is lawyer, just maybe, our basic argument of righteousness, regarding no initial defence or simple proof of legitimate funds transfers does not exist at all. We are going to have to fight this on a technicality which, while hopefully winning the case, will not ultimately absolve City from holier than thou innocence.

Personally I don’t care who represents us,as it looks increasingly likely we could be ok here,however as what happens in a lot of legal battles ,if we are going down we taking a few with us which I’m fine with as well

I disagree we will fight on a technicality. City have said that we have irrefutable evidence that we are innocent.

We want to prove our innocence and not just get off. We could have done a deal, it seems, but we would be forever tainted if we did. We want to clear our name.
