Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

I think it's more a case of him trying to put to bed the talk of him quitting early. I think he'll stay on an extra year if we have to sit out of Europe for one season but it will still depend on going close this year and then coming out flying in Premier League next season.
Yeah could just be a bit of media management. We’ll have to wait and see.

All is guesswork at this stage.

As Sherlock Holmes said in the short story "Silver Blaze", we are confronted with "a plethora of surmise, conjecture and hypothesis".

What will be will be. No one knows but Pep (and maybe Soriano?). But I am surmising, conjecturing and hypothesising here.

Guardiola:

"Everyone is looking for that - to be happy. I'm working with exceptional players, especially, and I have the feeling that they follow us 100 per cent, knowing how it's not easy working with us and with me."

“But I’m happy. That is the only reason why, when I move on always it's because I am thinking I can be happier, than the place that I was before. That is the only reason."

“When I feel that but I feel I am with a club, we have got incredible owners and a good relationship so I think it will not be a problem to understand both sides if we decide to stay three more years or stay in the time we are together.”

And he indicated that there are already talks in the air about staying longer.

"With Khaldoon we are going to talk at the end of the season or in the middle of next season and we will see.”

He added that when it comes to his personal decision, his “happiness” was the key factor.

“I want to stay one more year and after that it depends.”

“It also depends on the results. When I said a month ago the future we’ll have been five seasons together, I don't exclude it at all - if the club is happy with me and our group - to extend the contract."

“Now I want to be focused on these three months, we have to do game by game the best as possible, winning games and after we have time to think.”

Asked what the bottom line would be when he came to make his own decision, he said: “My happiness. I'm looking for my happiness, that’s the only thing I’m looking for."

The important thing is that I didn’t regret one second to come here and extend the contract, that is important. After that results dictate our job, there is no one different."

“Every manager is sacked, every manager has problems, every manager has good and bad moments, that is the reality now. I am no different."

“I don’t regret one moment the decision we made together and I want to finish this contract and after that we will see.”

Lovely.

I don't think he meant beyond this contract,if you watch it he seemed to be to saying he has reasons to be here over and above his contract, like he likes it here,he then says he is staying to the end of his contract not beyond it,i wouldn't read anything more into it

I agree with you but he also say “for a as long as possible”. That sounds like beyond 2021 to me.

how great would it be if we destroy eufa ffp is abandoned and city decide to go spending big creating what they all feared at the start.oh the irony.

Pep would get a huge amount of respect, begrudging or otherwise, if he stayed in spite of whatever ban we may incur.

Im so surprised that nobody in the media has yet interpreted and headlined his latest comments as 'pep opens door to juve move if they can make him happier than city' or 'pep issues come and get me plea to juve' or some crap like that.

I think the premier league suits what he wants, top teams able to turn each other over and here the pressure will be different from Spain or Germany, possibly the cup competition gives him enough kudos to accept the downtimes - if you can call it that.
It may well be his chance to build a team, which is one thing that gets thrown at him.
Maybe he just gets us, if it is then it's an addiction and we all know how that feels.

On second thoughts, hold the extension talk. I'm hearing from a well respected pundit on the true geordie kick off show that we may not want to keep Pep after all.

Looking ahead. Pep lost his mother and has had time to grieve and reflect. Not just football but the whole world dynamic has changed.

Why would he not want to extend his stay with City compared to the alternatives?

Good question to ask, but I’d say this is impossible to predict.
After his loss, he might want to turn his back on the whole football circus for a while and/or return back to his homeland and have his wife and children ‘back home’ nearby to the rest of his wider surviving family.
Or like you say, he may want to stay with City. Hope you’re right mate,
but impossible to begrudge him if not.

I think he’ll want to go home
