We don’t have the geography to make it feasible to lock down individual towns and cities. If there’s a serious outbreak in Manchester where would the quarantine arrangements end? It might be possible to quarantine a few cities, perhaps York, but most of non rural England is an urban sprawl.

Why is the infection rate seemingly dropping off quite drastically in China?
Because they’ve welded everyone in their houses, nobody apart from Government officials and doctors/nurses were allowed outside. Some cities that are normally 15million bustling cities are completely deserted.

If its as bad as they are say and it might infect 80% of us then its bloody serious and lock downs bans on large gatherings...travel restrictions should have been done at least a week ago. whatever it takes?

you don’t actually know do you?

Well that’s just bloody marvellous.

If I did I suspect I would be attending the Cobra meeting at 5pm rather than posting on here.

I have my own views on it, borders should have been closed until it was tackled in those countries that initially got it. Over the top? Impractical?
Now I fully expect to be "educated" as to why that could not have been done, Still be done, and how over the top such a move would have been.

The UK has seen its biggest daily increase in coronavirus cases, with 85 people now confirmed to have the virus.

Thirty-four new patients with COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus, were reported in the UK on Wednesday, with 32 in England and two in Scotland.

The Department of Health said three of the new cases in England contracted the virus in the UK, raising fears that community transmission may now be taking hold.

Boris saying we should keep shaking hands, duh

I do think they should have closed the Chinese borders as soon as they were aware of the severity of the outbreak.
But no, they waited for at least four weeks before taking some action.

You illustrate the maxim opinions are like arseholes...

Seems to get it spot on. Although, disappointingly, there are no mentions of nukes...

I’m not fully informed on what’s going on in the US and I’ve merely scanned the article, but as for here in the UK, I’d be quite content if Johnson simply stuck to listening to the professionals on this. I’d hazard a guess they’re the ones who will decide when the more extreme measures come into effect.
